We've been going to JoJo for years now.... to celebrate our wedding anniversaries mainly.. or sometimes for some other occasions. Since we've been going there for years, I have my favorite dishe that I only order at JoJo because they make the best one ( at least.. to me), which is Beef Tenderloin dish. So I ordered my usual dish as main dish for the anniversary night out. The restaurant did not look that busy considering how many empty tables were there and also my husband made early hour reservations. It took a long time to receive our main dishes, a way longer than usual ( JoJo never takes this long from the minute you finish your appetizer and you get your main meal). My husband's dish ( duck) was cold, not even lukewarm -ish. but my husband was so starving, he just ate it fast without taking the dish back. And my dish, Beef Tenderloin, I asked for medium rare, it was raw! the flesh was so raw, the texture and the color were as raw as they could be. Not personally it feels raw, it might be raw to you or to someone , it was RAW. I saw it , my husband saw it, our waitress saw it. She was sincere and honest enough to say sorry about how my dish was so raw and she immediately sent it back. Finally, 2nd time around my dish came, I cut it and one end of meat was somewhat Medium and the rest of the meat was still almost raw. I showed it to our waitress and she was about to offer another try.. at this point, I was so starving but I just could not believe this was happening at JoJo. I strongly felt something was off in the kitchen that night. I already lost my appetite and I just could not sit there, wait for another round of try to fix my dish, hoping that next time it will come out correctly when my husband already finished his meal by himself !( devoured cold duck out of starvation). I just could NOT spend my anniversary night like this, it's already ruined enough, and I did not see any other, better option but to leave... Every year every time when I go to JoJo, I really appreciated and enjoyed our food, and the hospitality by hostesses and waitresses. I consider myself ( and others ) foodie, so usually after my visit I upload nice food pics on SNS to share with other foodie friends, but not this time... It is a still beautiful restaurant. But to me, beautiful restaurant without the fundamental, which is good food and without consistency & sincere hospitality... does...
Read moreMy bf and I came for brunch from the UPW to UPE to celebrate our anniversary this past weekend. I have to say the quality of their food was horrible. I can't believe a Jean Georges restaurants quality of food was this horrible. We ordered two simple entre, 2 appetizers the warm salad that came with overcooked shrimp and completely covered in salt and lemon, it was extremely salted they prob just dumped the lemon and salt on this salad, the shrimp was very average, chewy and it prob was not sanitary who knows! My bf ordered the spicy fin tuna tartare he took one bite of it and just returned the appetizer. lol, uhm, can we get a refund on this?? Just to tell you, my bf is an amazing chef who has cooked his whole life, but bc it was our anniversary we had come out of what he thought was a high-quality restaurant turned into a nightmare. Lol and i have to say the entrè OMG, simple meals, the chicken, and a burger were both completely covered in salt. The chicken was so dry, rubbery, and just disgusting. My bf joked that he would use it as shoe rubber. I just could not believe the food tasted as it did. We had to return both plates, and they ended up not charging us for them.. as courtesy, but even then, I would not recommend this spot for any special occasion. They don't even give u dessert for your special occasions. Our waiter was understanding about our experience, but he just did not dress the part for an upscale Jèan George restaurant. I would not recommend going here for any occasion. We def will not be going to that location again, and my bf has visited all other locations and has spoken highly of, We even visited tin building Jean George and way better. This location needs a major upgrade on service, quality, and please attire. Worst spot to visit. My bf also mentioned that the kitchen looked like a complete nightmare. It was completely overcrowded, the workers just dumping salt and lemon all over your pre-made meal. I mean to have over 20+ workers in a tiny kitchen there has got to be some sanitary issues, making your food, he saw the chef smoking, that was not a good display for a restaurant that's supposed...
Read moreJo Jo was our spontaneous choice after I unsuccessfully tried to book a table at 10 other locations. I decided on an early dinner at 5:00 once I found a table. We adjusted our plans and arrived at the restaurant, which is located in a charming neighborhood and occupies a small, cozy building.
We were seated downstairs but later checked out the upper floor, which has windows and a bright, airy vibe. For a casual lunch with friends, I’d recommend the cozy corner tables upstairs — perfect for relaxed chats or fun gossip. For our date night, however, the downstairs seating was ideal. The eclectic and stylish atmosphere, enhanced by beautiful lighting, made it feel intimate and special. I truly admired the use of monochromatic tones and the thoughtful design of the space.
Our dining experience was wonderful! The ambiance was warm and inviting, blending coziness with elegance and making us feel instantly at ease. The menu offered a fantastic variety of dishes, and everything we tried was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. I loved the warm shrimp salad, and the crunchy, spicy tuna roll was a hit. The pasta with mushrooms had a unique twist thanks to its seasoning, and the carrots, served as a garnish, were a delightful option for those who prefer more vegetables. Although I lately skip dessert, I couldn’t resist the chocolate flan with a molten center and ice cream on the side. And since legend has it that Jean-Georges himself invented it, we couldn’t argue — it would’ve been impolite in his house!
The service was outstanding. The staff worked together as a team — one waiter kept our glasses full, another ensured the table was spotless, and a third presented and served the dishes beautifully. Their teamwork was impressive! Bravo!
