Terrible food, terrible service, and bordering on fraudulent (see the second paragraph for details on this). The agedashi tofu was a joke. This dish is supposed to be served with a broth made from various Japanese ingredients and with some green onion on top. What I got was slathered in Sriracha sauce, I kid you not. This is the Asian equivalent of serving pasta with ketchup instead of proper sauce. The curry beef bowl was also sub-par. The texture of the beef was rubber-like and not tender at all, and the vegetables were undercooked.
To make matters worse, they didn't have the beer that I wanted. Okay, fine, just remove it from my tab. Except, the waitress said she couldn't remove it until I closed the tab and finalized payment (which is already weird and suspicious). Then, without my agreement, she started pressing buttons on my iPad to close my tab, which included giving her the default tip of 18% - ON THE AMOUNT THAT INCLUDED THE BEER. Let me repeat: she reached onto my iPad and gave herself a tip THAT I DID NOT AGREE TO. And again, she tipped herself the amount that included the beer, and later refunded the price of the beer (but not the proportional amount of tip). So basically I ended up giving her something like a 25% tip that I did NOT agree to! Fortunately my credit card company readily refunded me the corresponding amount when I disputed the charge, but this is shady as hell, bordering on fraudulent.
Oh yeah, and service sucked all around. I really would have liked to not tip at all. They never refilled my water or cleared the plates when I was done. If you're hungry and in Terminal C at LGA, I strongly recommend any other option over...
Read moreRenovated! Wow, LGA has upped it’s game. With the LGA renovations comes a lot more improved food options. We weren’t expecting much from the food court near the Delta terminal C Gates 60-69. All cooked-to-order food kiosks have a screen pad ordering and payment system. We selected Kombu and ordered a beef ramen and California roll. You can watch the chefs making your food. The ramen broth was remarkable good with a good portion of noodle – some of the beef was a little fatty but overall it was a tasty solid dish (let alone for airport food). California roll was well proportioned, roll was a little on the larger side and wrapped inside out but a nice portion of crab and avocado in the roll. Very impressed with quality and taste of food for airport food. Chuko wasn’t nearly as good but was solid for airport food and had a nice seating area. Kombu food was good for any place and we will definitely order from here again.
This food court has multiple hot food options - tacos, burgers, ramen and falafel. The Jersey Mike’s was not open – in fact, it looked new like only the counters were installed. So no sandwiches except nasty old pre-made refrigerated sandwiches. We were concerned about how long the hot food would take to prep. Kombu did a good job of preparing the food in a reasonable...
Read moreOverall, not bad as reviews go. I had the chashu ramen, which was $24. I chose it mainly because I was hungry and craving soup after reading some reviews, so maybe I didn’t have high expectations—but it turned out not to be bad. However, the food overall was on the salty side. The broth, the soft-boiled egg, and even the bamboo shoots all leaned salty, so that sensation didn’t really go away no matter what I ate. Still, if you think of it as just grabbing a meal at the airport, it...
