As a young black man i will never in my life support another la bagel store after my experience today. I am a FREQUENT customer. I visit the fort green location 5 out of the 7 days of the week to get the same food order. The staff knows my name. I called to place an order and each time i had to keep saying hello to make sure if someone is on the phone. There was no verbal communication at all. The La Bagle Representative then replies and says “ i don’t have time for this , you don’t have to get your food today “. I say i just wanted verbal confirmation that my order was heard at least. He hangs up. I walk over to ask and to speak to the manager. The manager comes up and says it was me who answered . I ask why is am i being spoke to like I’m bothering someone when i come every day. I couldn’t even finish my sentence before i was cut off by him saying “ i don’t care. You can go get food from where else. I didn’t like how you was speaking to me “ At the point i was so frustrated and felt disgusted. I knew it had to be racially motivated because i didn’t come at him at all and i never had this experience in my year of going here everyday with ANY other employee. He then says as a threat “oh yeah you work at _ I’ll see you later”. Information he knows because i come everyday. Subject: Unpleasant Experience - A Call for Change
Unfortunately, my experience was disheartening. As a young black man, I felt unwelcome due to instances of racism and rudeness from the staff. It's disconcerting to encounter such behavior in this day and age.
I believe in promoting inclusivity and standing against discrimination. I encourage fellow patrons to reconsider supporting LA Bagel until they address and rectify these issues. Let's all strive for a community that values diversity and treats everyone...
Read moreI’ve been coming to this location pretty regularly for 3 years. I love their menu variety and quality. But over the last 6-8 months there has been a noticeable negative shift however and today unfortunately was the final straw leading me to write a review. Over the last few months there has been unreliability in opening times, mistaken orders even when not busy, rude and overwhelmed staff and very long wait times. There seems to be a heavy turnover rate in staff (based on help wanted signs going up and down in the window frequently and new staff faces) which understandably leads to a lot of the issues above. However this morning there were 5 customers waiting outside at 6:30. 3 ended up leaving after 5-10 mins and the store did not open the doors until 6:45. When I went in to order, I saw no bagels on the shelves. I asked if there were any types of bagels available and they said “no, we don’t have any bagels. Just bread and rolls.” When I asked when bagels may be available they said “not sure.” I left without a purchase and went to Bergen.
I have loved LaBagel for a long time, and am used to the long lines and sometimes not so friendly staff-the overall experience has always made it worth it. I’ve been trying to wait out this period because I understand it’s a wonky environment right now and staff can be hard to maintain. But after waiting many months leading to this morning’s experience, I’ll be taking a break for a bit and hope to return later to a more...
Read moreIf you’re looking for one of the most disorganized fast casual bagel spots in NYC, you’ve found it here. You have to go through two lines of equally as confused people, who aren’t sure whether they’ve ordered or are waiting I line, to finally order. Then you order. And you don’t pay- till later. they don’t take your name- and then kind of have to guess when your order is ready and then finally pay- it’s just the most inefficient system and there’s no excuse. Time to modernize. Also- their bagels are now tough. I’ve asked for double toasted and blond and tough is what I’ve gotten lately. Not as good as they used to be. I feel bad for the employees because they’re put in a difficult position and then have to navigate through irritated customers- thus they become irritated. I am a chef- cook- and restaurant person, and it pains me to see a place like this that has so...
