I heard about Le Baratin through TikTok and have been wanting to book a table here for over a year, but it's always booked and busy. I decided to book my birthday dinner here this year. Unfortunately, I was super disappointed and quite frankly, appalled, by the quality of the service. I arrived 30 minutes late to my reservation due to getting stuck in the tunnel on my commute in. I called the restaurant 4 times to notify them but nobody picked up. I also messaged on Instagram and sent one guest at the originally slotted time to explain the situation. When I arrived, the waiter rushed us and proceeded to make us feel incredibly guilty about being late. He spoke to us rudely and kept saying that we should have called to let him know that we would be late. When I told him that I had called four times, he told me we needed to be out within an hour and could only order one course because there was another reservation after us. I apologized profusely, but he left the table without letting us order and we had to chase down another waitress to put our order in. The other reservation never arrived but the night was already ruined as everyone in the party was made to feel guilty, despite spending nearly $400 on dinner. On top of it, after checking my receipt the next morning, I was overcharged. An item we had changed our minds about had been added to the bill but hadn't been taken off the total price. I was incredibly disappointed as this put a damper on my birthday.
OTHER NOTES: The food was good, on the pricier side, but large portions. I loved the chicken cordon bleu. The cocktails were strong but didn't taste good - the French martini was mediocre. Around 9 pm, the space is supposed to turn into a dinner party with loud music and fun vibes. I was expecting big things but the vibes were subpar, especially for a Thursday night. Overall, a decent spot if you can stomach...
Read moreLe Baratin means "smooth talker" who can BS about anything, like a clever fox. Therefore, their logo contains cute and fashionable fox. They also had a cute fox on the top their bar. Loved that little touch. The inside was bright, larger than I thought it would be, even though it was not a huge space. It had a bar to the left, right by the entrance, as this is more than just a restaurant but also a bar where you can enjoy some beers and wines.
I love the interior of this place, with lots of antique trays, arts, and signs. The wall was painted warm pastel yellow, with part of it covered with old-fashioned tiles that matches the wall paint color. The wall on the right side was exposed red brick, creating that cozy atmosphere.
For food, we ordered Croque Madame and Le Burger Baratin. They were pretty darn great! They both came with pommes frites and salad. I liked how they just came with them, instead of "choice of fries or salad." They were big portions, so we didn't have any room left for dessert. Maybe next time. I would love to go back again for more of their simple and traditional French bistro fare. Everything was really good, and the female server was super nice and sweet. And the fact that she was French added our French brunch experience. If you want some French food at comfy, relaxing cute little cafe, give them a try, and make sure to bring your partner before someone else does! Read moreI had the pleasure of dining at Le Baratin and I must say, it was an absolutely delightful experience. From the moment I stepped in, the warm and inviting ambiance set the stage for a memorable evening. The menu was a treasure trove of French culinary delights, and I couldn't resist starting with their escargot persillade. These tender, garlic-infused snails were a true delight for my taste buds. As for the mains, the sautéed foie gras melted in my mouth, leaving a rich and decadent flavor that I won't soon forget. The baked brie, oozy and perfectly paired with a light puff pastry that encased it, was a heavenly combination of creamy and crunchy. However, the real star of the show was the boeuf bourguignon. The melt-in-your-mouth beef, braised to perfection in a rich red wine sauce, was a true masterpiece of French cuisine. To end the evening on a sweet note, I enjoyed a splendidly crafted crème brûlée, with its perfect caramelized sugar topping and silky smooth custard underneath. The service at Le Baratin was impeccable, with knowledgeable and friendly staff who were more than happy to guide me through the menu and offer suggestions. I left the restaurant feeling content, my taste buds dancing with joy, and a firm belief that Le Baratin is a true gem in the crowded NYC...
