If you're a douchebag or a wannabe, welcome home - you'll love this place. I like Acme, but...as a native New Yorker, this place represents everything we dislike about transplants: pretense for no good reason; a waiting line for a half empty bar (and a below average one at that -- it's basically a glorified pub); 4/5's that think they're 8/9's because of some small town they're from; and pretentiousness to mask deep insecurities.
Then the drinks...uh...the cocktails are not "unique" here -- even their Dark n' Stormies are as fake as the clientele (no Gosling's rum/ginger beer, not enough lime, totally watered down, etc. etc. etc.), and jalapeno tequila has been around for decades. Don't let the ignorant comments mislead you -- you can get better cocktails at a frat party. The place literally made me cringe. Especially when there's a great bar like Slowly Shirley RIGHT NEXT DOOR.
There are so many great bars around here, and considering how great Kingswood was (how genuine the Aussie regulars were...who, because of that, were way more attractive), this place is atrocious. I mean, the top shelf vodka is a Stoli? Am I in some small college town?? And there's a doorman? And bottle service (which is pretentious/ridiculous anywhere -- but at a place like this...)?? Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha....yeah, no thanks.
Hopefully this place will go out of business soon and a better place will come shortly. A Pig n' Whistle would be a giant step up. I'd rather spend my money at Slowly Shirley next door, or at Highlands down the street on quality scotch with friendly staff who know what they're talking about, and a normal clientele (who are actually a lot more attractive despite having no doorman --...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreDamn, the burger was just incredible. They were not kidding when they say it's the lovechild of a shake shack and in n out burger. It takes the best of both burgers and combines it into a delicious, flavourful, juicy overall excellent burger. The bun was soft on the top but grilled on it's inside reminiscent of the shake shack bun. The beef patty was griddled to perfection with the outside maintaining a delicious crispy "smash" style exterior with the inside still juicy and delicious. There was plenty of melty American cheese for the burger and the toppings were the perfect amount so as to not distract from how delicious the meat and cheese was. And of course they added some sort of In-N-Out type spread that just tied the entire burger together and made it superior to either shake shack or in n out and quite frankly probably one of if not the best burger in New York City. Of course, that's just talking about the cheeseburger. In addition to that is a fully fledged bar with multiple delicious interesting cocktails and a very laid back tiki/island vibe great for chilling with friends for...the happiest hour. Truly was their...
