I googled best brunch places around Hell’s kitchen and this establishment was one of the first to pop up. My sister and daughter arrived before I did. When I got there, we didn’t wait long to be seated.
The server approached the table soon after she took our drink order while we looked over the menu. I asked for the bottomless miomas she quickly responded you know you have until 4pm and it was only 3pm. Not that she informed me on how much time I had that didn’t sit well with me, it was more so her tone. Cool, she now takes our food order, my sister orders the spicy fried chicken, I ordered the breakfast burger & crispy toast sticks, and last, I ordered the steak & eggs for my daughter.
The food takes forever to come out. Not once did she come over to the table to check-in, a simple hey I know the food is taking long, but it should be out shortly. NOTHING! Food finally hits the table, and it’s lukewarm!!!! Who wants to eat cold fries? Eggs weren’t cooked over easy. She comes over and I tell her the food is cold & it seems like it’s been sitting back there for a while. She asked if I wanted to send anything back. I told her no; we were starving at this point. As I cut my daughter’s steak which I ordered medium well, it was cooked medium. That I sent back. With an attitude, she took it back to the kitchen. Again, no, I am sorry, or her trying to fix the mistake. All I am getting is an attitude from this server.
We finished our food but I honestly couldn’t finish the “crispy” toast because there’s a difference between crispy & burnt. I asked to speak to a manager to give feedback about the food. Would not mention the horrible service. The server came back to the table asking why were we asking for a manager when we already ate all the food. I was in shock like what? She continued like yes, I want to know super aggressive. I told her I thought it was best for her to get away from the table. She kept antagonizing the situation to where I responded in a way I know I wasn’t supposed to. She then said I knew you people were going to do this. I knew you were going to want something free. I lost it because she felt comfortable enough to say that. It says a lot about this restaurant and its culture. A white server saying that she knew us black ppl wanted something free explained why her service was so bad from the beginning. All of this was going on and not a manager on site!!!! We left and my sister returned to pay the bill & see if finally, a manager was available, and no Jacob was nowhere...
Read moreWe got there just as they were opening up for brunch, so we were the first ones to walk in to the restaurant. The inside was a typical, long and narrow set up as many restaurants in the city. It had a really nice, looong bar with bar counter, and crazy amount of bar stools. They had table seating across from the bar, good amount of them.
We started our brunch with a cup of coffee which came with free refill. It was a good cup of coffee to wake us up and get our stomach ready for some food.
We ordered Crispy French Toast and The Lilly’s Breakfast Burger. I somehow thought their French Toast would be small, but it was a pretty good portion. It comes with a choice of bacon or sausage, and we chose bacon. And my goodness the bacon was amazing! The French Toast was rather interesting. They seemed to be coated with corn flake or something similar, creating that crunch. The burger was huge, I mean, really big! The patty was cooked a bit more than how we requested, so it was a bit more on the dry side. I prefer super juicy burger patty, but the egg helped some on that part. The patty was still tasty and flavorful. The veggies were super fresh and buns were soft and airy. Overall, it was a good burger.
Our server, Shannon was really nice. She was friendly, tentative, and took a good care of us with a smile. Another cool thing about them was that on the bottom of their drinks and dessert menu, it said “5% off food with a Yelp Check-In.” Of course we checked in with Yelp, and showed it to our server. It only applies to “food” items, not drinks. Read my full review of the restaurant and food on my food blog,...
Read moreThe two stars is because the food was good, everything else was pretty terrible though. We went in yesterday, October 3rd, for brunch around 3pm. We opted to sit inside, which was a mistake. The restaurant seems like it isn’t sure what to cater to, so while there’s tables full of people enjoying brunch, there are also people standing around watching a football game shouting intermittently. It took a full 15 minutes for the waitress to come over. We ordered our drinks and food. It took about 10 minutes for the drinks to arrive and we fully finished them and waited for the waitress to come over to check on us and get us refills. The food came out and was obviously sitting in the kitchen waiting to be delivered for some time. It was lukewarm, the sauce on top of the eggs was gelatinous, the poached eggs were fully cooked through and the side of potatoes had 8 cubes. I counted because it looked so ridiculous on the plate.
We sat for another 10 minutes waiting for silverware and finally got the bartenders attention who literally yelled “SILVERWARE!” Into a doorway and went back behind the bar. A guy came out holding two wet sets of silverware in a crumpled napkin, obviously just coming out of the dishwasher.
Overall I’d say it’s not worth the headache. The service was abysmal, the menu pricing is based on location more than value and the portions were small. There are too many other restaurants in the area to get stuck here if you...
