Comforting Food, Peaceful Vibes, and Unforgettable Flavors
Longevous Joy holds a special place in my memory. I came here a few years ago — I think around 2022 — and even though the front dining area was closed off at the time (takeout only), the experience stuck with me in the best way. It’s a family-owned spot, and you can really feel that care in both the food and the atmosphere.
One dish I’ll never forget is the BBQ Pork Thai Basil Fried Rice — hands down one of the most unique and flavorful dishes I’ve had in NYC. The pork is tender, marinated in what tastes like honey, and perfectly balances sweet, savory, and spicy notes. The basil adds this fresh pop that brings everything together. It's unlike anything I’ve found since, and I still think about it years later.
They also serve sushi, and honestly, their eel and lobster rolls were surprisingly good. Not your average sushi spot either — lobster rolls at a Chinese restaurant? You wouldn’t expect it, but they really deliver. That kind of variety and quality is rare, especially in such a chill, unassuming spot.
Another favorite: their beef chow fun (or char kway teow) — a stir-fried noodle dish with veggies, and a rich, slightly smoky sauce that tastes like a blend of soy and something more complex — maybe an umami base or their own house mix. I asked about it back then, but they kept it a secret (fair enough 😄). Whatever it is, it’s absolutely delicious.
The location also adds to the experience. Even though it’s in NYC, it feels like you’ve stepped into a quieter, more relaxed town. It still has that New York vibe, but without the chaos — a perfect spot to take a breath and enjoy a great meal. Maybe it feels extra meaningful to me because I used to spend time here with someone special, but I also genuinely remember how good the food was.
Overall: Longevous Joy is a cozy, underrated gem with food that’s full of flavor, character, and heart. Whether you’re in the area or just want something different from the usual NYC spots — this place is...
Read moreI've had nothing but good experiences at this restaurant since it's opening, but my most recent visit truly left a bad taste. I'm not sure if the owners have changed as the employees have changed during COVID and they were the true gems.
I ordered a Tonkotsu Ramen and was served a dish topped with what seemed like salty stir fried pork. I asked the server if they made a mistake, and was told that the dish was indeed what I ordered. I let her know that there was a discrepancy between what was shown on the menu and what I was served and that I've ordered this dish multiple times prior and was never given what was in front of me previously. She assured me that nothing had changed and this was indeed the right dish. I asked her to bring the menu and the photo was in fact different - she then changed what she said to me and proclaimed that the photos are enhanced to draw in customers. Is she suggesting false advertisement? She did not offer to fix the issue in any way. I kept the dish, ate the noodles and left the pork (btw there was one piece of fried chicken in there too🙄). She returned and asked if the pork was no good - told her again that it was not what I ordered. She left without a resolution, again.
The sushi quality is better than most in the immediate area, but given this last experience I am not sure whether I will be frequenting again...
Read moreThere were not many people here today. It was only a Tuesday and the place is inconspicuous from outside. So many people walking around may not notice this place. They did have a steady stream of customers coming in while we were there. They have a humongous amount of different sake. Whatever you palette will handle, they have one to satisfy you. The waitets were very nice and helpful and jumped to help you even with a glance in their direction. We had a variety of different things to eat. Had the Tako Yaki (baby octopus donuts) which had these flakes that moved while still hot. It was interesting and delicious. It did taste like a fresh donut just come out from the oven. Also had the potato shrimp. Strings of potato wrapped around shrmp.. very interesting. It did need just a little more flavor tho. Had the Nagoya lolipops also, which is fried chicken lolipops. Had the Tuna and Toro, standard sushi.. The breaded deep fried pork was really good along with the chicken skwers with a hint of curry. This was quite nice also. The best part again is the selection of sake they have. Its quite a selection.
Are you starting to get the theme? Most everything is fried or deep fried. If you like fried everything, you will definitely...
