I hardly ever leave reviews, but my visit to "Ma n Pop" left me no choice.
I'm being totally honest here, not because the food was any good. It was so awful, I feel like I need to warn others.
I ended up apologizing to my girlfriend dozens of times for taking her there.
This place seems more focused on looks than on the food they're serving.
People have been raving about their "Mac and Cheese," but I'm convinced they've never actually eaten here.
Trust me, the photos shared by others online don't lie—it's a disgrace.
Don't be tricked by the high ratings like I was. It's all about appearance, not the actual food. They're not willing to improve what they're serving, and that's just crazy.
I wish I'd taken a photo of my meal to show just how bad it was. Honestly, anything from the frozen section of a grocery store would taste better.
My girlfriend and I felt sick after eating here
I had the catfish dinner with Mac n Cheese and potato salad.
Why did I do this to myself?
The catfish was passable, but the potato salad tasted off, and the Mac and Cheese was basically just mac—no cheese.
How can a soul food place mess up Mac and Cheese this badly?
My girlfriend's dish wasn't any better. The gravy was watery and looked like diarrhea on a plate, and it tasted bland, as if it came from a can. A Hungry Man meal tastes better.
We've shown pictures of our meals to others, and they were just as appalled.
The whole experience was a letdown, especially since we had been looking forward to trying this place.
It's disheartening to see a restaurant, particularly one that's Black-owned, mislead people like this.
Those fake reviews are a disservice to everyone.Lastly, the photos I'll share are from other people.
Look at them and tell me, does this look appetizing to you? Serving food like this should be embarrassing.
Writing this review doesn't make me feel any better; it's just the harsh reality. There's a special place in hell for people who write fake reviews. This is supposed to be a soul food restaurant, but there's no soul to be found here. The service was okay, nothing special. But I won't be coming back. Ever.
To Ma-n-Pop, the food should speak for itself. You don't have to lie about your reviews. If it's good, people will naturally talk about it and spread the word. The food is the most important thing, then comes the culture and reviews of the restaurant. The food is the foundation, and if it’s good, it will...
Read moreWish i could give them zero stars. I use to order from here quite often, both directly and through seamless (not anymore). I placed a $40.00 order. The girl that brought it called and said food is outside. Ask her to ring the bell 1st fl. She said she cant come upstairs. I said im on the 1st fl. She says she a girl and cant come in the building. I said im in a wheelchair and cant come out the building, im right on the 1st fl. She sighs oh well. So i say ill call seamless and my money back since she can't deliver my food, she hangs up. Keep in mind, I've ordered from this restaurant more than 10 times in the last 3 yrs. Never had any delivery person not bring my food to my 1st fl apt. THEN, the restaurant refuses to give my money back, because she lied and said i didn't tell her I was in a wheelchair. I than tried to call the restaurant to speak to the manager or someone in charge and this boy (yes boy, because he was unprofessional) tells me theirs no one there and he doesn't know when they come in. I will definitely be letting everyone i know and recommended this restaurant to, not to order from them anymore. We'll be ordering from the soul food spot from now in. If you don't deliver into a building than you should let customers know you only do...
Read moreI decided to try this restaurant for breakfast because it was highly recommended by a family member. This family member usually over exaggerates a lot.
The atmosphere was calming and intimate. This is a seated environment with about five (5) maybe six (6) tabes for two (2). The huge turn off was there is not one bathroom for seated customers. Not cool at all.
The breakfast food was bland and tasteless.
1st Plate: The eggs were watery, beef sausage were not well done, salmon cakes were not fully cooked (too soft on the inside), left a bad after taste in my mouth. The only thing tolerable on the plate was the Home-fries and Toast
2nd Plate: Toast was cold and hard, sage sausage was not well done and tasteless, the grits with cheese (cheese was like a mixed cheddar/mozzarella shredded cheese), eggs were watery, and the the sweet tea was tooooo sweet.
I usually give restaurants the benefit of the doubt. I almost always check customer reviews before making a purchase or visiting a restaurant.
Would I go back to Ma & Pop Soul Food...
