The BLK MKT Vintage Store is truly the stuff of my Black girl dreams. I have been following the shop since it was just an Instagram page run by it's beautifully inspiring owners. At the time I was living in California and I would be sooo excited every time they posted. History comes to life with BLK MKT Vintage. They are doing the real and tangible work of memory making in real time, archiving Black history, art, love, music, etc. When they announced a storefront shop I was actually in Massachusetts going to grad school. I drove from Mass to NYC just to be at the shop opening and it was truly my distinct honor!
The inventory is expansive, well curated, and beautiful. The store front is quintessentially NY. The owners are beautiful people, knowledgeable, and most importantly kind. I moved back to California due to the pandemic but I know that the next time I'm in New York, the BLK MKT Vintage is a must visit spot for me. I hope you take the time to support this incredible Black business both online and in store when it reopens. I'm so grateful for the work that they do and I happily spend my...
Read moreLiterally one of my favorite places. The store itself is an experience. I was one of the people who waited for the grand opening, and I was incredibly blessed to be there. I could browse for hours. First, the space itself it is very carefully and well thought-out, so if you want to just take in the beauty of Black culture and ephemera by looking around, you can. Second, I have purchased Black political artifacts, (Dinkins for President, Gregory & Chisholm artifacts) which are my jam, but there is something for everyone. If you want art, vinyl records, or vintage movie posters, they have you covered. If you want furniture or household accessories, they also have those. They have the best music playing, I don’t know how the playlist is always perfect, but it is. And of course, Kiyanna and Jay are just friendly and welcoming people. I felt blessed to have lived in walking distance and to experience this shop. I cannot wait...
Read moreThis is one of the future staples of the Brooklyn community you’re looking at here! This shop showcases Black History, antiques, vintage finds and ephemera with the warmth of a home and the dignity and respect of a museum. My wife and I have been buying vintage finds and antiques from BLK MKT since their flea market days. I am reminded of them when looking at my beautiful artifacts and art pieces they procured on a daily basis and it warms my soul to know such a shop exists. I look forward to when the shop reopens and I can acquire more beauty for my home from this PRISTINE and WORLD CLASS beautifully unapologetically Black LGBTQ Owned business. Anyone who says this place is otherwise or rated low is doing so with nefarious, bigoted, and hateful reason. God Bless BLK MKT...
