Our nearly 3 hour walking tour ended here on 2/17/2022. I was super excited because I have the Magnolia cookbook and I heard that they sell a gluten free version of their famous banana pudding
Unfortunately when we walked it, it felt like they were trying to rush us out. I was told that you have to preorder gluten free banana pudding, so my husband ordered a regular large banana pudding ($8.25) for himself and I asked if they had anything gluten free available.
The woman behind the counter brought out a small chocolate cupcake with white icing. I was like, "ugh okay." It looks smaller than the other cupcakes that they have for sale. I watched her put it in the box but she tilted the box when putting it into the bag. I have a feeling the smaller cupcake doesn't fit securely in their boxes, so when we opened the box down the street, the cupcake was stuck to the top of the box by its frosting. Not the end of the world because I bought it for myself, but I'd be mad if it was for a gift or party.
My husband ordered a hot coffee for $2.50. he had to exchange it because his cup kept leaking from the side, so they just poured another coffee and took the broken cup back.
My husband had never had banana pudding before. He said it was fine but not something he'd seek out. He also said said for $2.50 the coffee was good. We both tried the gluten free cupcake and it was so dry and flavorless. The frosting tasted like nothing but was clearly buttercream.
As a Celiac, I was disappointed. If you don't need to eat gluten free, try the pudding.

Read moreThe pudding was amazing. The bakery is so cute. BUT WTH IS WRONG WITH THE STAFF? I totally understand how overwhelming the customers can be in such a busy place, but they seriously need to work on the customer service up there. The lady at the register was so rude and when left the store after I paid the $7.25 for the pudding, I was met with LOUD shouting right behind me with the lady yelling at me in front of the WHOLE STREET AND STORE (the door was open and everyone was looking at us). She came after me to say that I didn’t pay the $7.25. When I told her that I did because I remember counting in front of her, she said I gave her $7, not $7.25. I was confused because I vividly remember placing the 25cents on the counter. When I walked back to see and pay if I needed to, I see the 25 cents ON THE COUNTER IN FRONT OF HER! I became angry and asked “is this not 25 cents ?” and all she said was “ oh I did not see that”. Not a “sorry” not a “excuse me”. Nothing. I’m not one to ever give 1 stars, but I am still shocked that this incident happened to me. I was so excited to try the pudding, but this incident left such a sour taste in my mouth that Magnolia Bakery won’t be such a sweet memory to me.
Do better and don’t work at a place that you are clearly miserable at and take it out on...
