Title: Disappointing Experience: Overcharged, Unsatisfactory Conditions, Unhelpful Management, and Hidden Additional Charges
I recently stayed at Oyo Time Square, and unfortunately, I am sad if id not read previous reviews, now I know I am not the only one I was overcharged. My experience was far from satisfactory. This left me feeling frustrated and disappointed.
First and foremost, if you value peace and quiet, this is not the place for you. The location may be great for some, but be prepared for noise at all hours. We asked for the queen sized bedroom but The constant disturbance made it difficult to relax or get a good night's sleep.
To make matters worse, the bathroom in the room had a disgusting smell of mildew that was by far the worst odor in the entire hotel. It was evident that the cleaning staff had neglected proper cleaning and maintenance, resulting in an unbearable stench. Despite bringing this issue to the attention of the manager, their response was disappointing. Instead of taking immediate action to clean the bathroom, they simply sent an air filter, which did not address the root cause of the problem.
Additionally, the room's sound insulation was inadequate. I strongly recommend bringing 33 decibel earplugs if you hope to get any sleep throughout the night. The hallways were incredibly narrow, allowing only one person to walk through at a time. This cramped atmosphere extended to the small elevator as well, making it quite uncomfortable. I am a short person but this place make me feel claustrophobic.
Furthermore, the actual decoration of the place did not resemble what was depicted in the pictures. I had conversations with other guests who also expressed disappointment and sadness over the stark contrast between the advertised appearance and the actual state of the hotel. The excessive use of scent in the entrance area was unable to mask the unpleasant odors within the rooms, leaving a lasting negative impression.
In addition to the above issues, I want to highlight a hidden charge that we encountered. We had already paid in advance for our full six-night stay, but upon checking in, we were informed that we had to pay an additional $36 per night, totaling $218 for the dull stay above we already paid. When we inquired if this would be credited to our account, the staff assured us that it wouldn't be. However, shortly after, we discovered that we had indeed been charged, despite the initial assurance. Now I see that they do this all the time, offering “discounts” but charging additional hidden fees, please do not fall for it. Find a better place to stay.
Despite the disappointing conditions, I must acknowledge that the manager was kind. However, their kindness did not translate into effective solutions. When I brought up the issue of the lingering bathroom odor, the management failed to address or resolve the problem adequately.
Moreover, the hot water supply was unreliable during my stay. Instead of enjoying hot showers, I had to make do with lukewarm water for an entire week. This lack of basic amenities was truly disappointing, considering the high price I paid. I have never encountered such subpar conditions in a hotel, especially not at a rate of $260 per night.
I strongly advise prospective guests to reconsider their choice and explore other options. Save your money and find a place that prioritizes cleanliness, comfort, and tranquility. Oyo Time Square fell short on all accounts, and I regret my decision...
Read moreChoosing OYO Times Square was a last minute decision for me. I actually made a terrible decision and got caught up in a scam from someone offering an apartment through one of the travel websites. In order to save my NYC trip, I saw OYO Times Square as affordable (for days before my arrival), centrally located and near my shows, and the pictures looked good with a bathroom in the room. Exactly what I wanted and needed. Upon arrival, the pictures were exactly matching what I found. The lobby was brightly lit, welcoming, and the front desk was large with two people at the desk. Check in was easy and the staff was super friendly, helpful, and inviting. You need your key card to get to your floor on the elevator, so I felt super safe. There are 2 elevators, but they are not in the same place and they are on separate call buttons. The elevators are slow, so definitely factor in getting to the lobby in your timing to your shows and reservations. This is Manhattan, so don't expect big spacious buildings. The halls feel small and the room feels small, but it's got everything you need and room for you and your things. There's a nice sized closet, a little cabinet to place things down, hooks for your jacket and purse, side tables, a nice sized bathroom with shower, a window, flat screen TV, a safe, and free WiFi. The bathroom is subway tile, which is my favorite, and has everything you need: towels (hand, bath, washcloth, and bathmat), shower gel and shampoo and conditioner are in dispensers in the shower, and a hairdryer. In the room you've got a trash can and separate recycling bin. I love that. There is also a modern thermostat in the room that works really well for A/C control. It was hot when I went and I loved keeping my room at a comfortable temperature. Your bedding is very clean, but for me I needed an extra blanket. I asked the front desk, and I was given a lovely cozy blanket exactly when I wanted it. I left my "Do Not Disturb" sign on my door so that I wouldn't waste cleaning every day, and the staff is very conscientious of the guests and our requests and no one disturbed me when the sign was up, even if I wasn't there. I also wanted some bottled water and went to a nearby market and grabbed some fruit as well. When I got back, I was offered a mini-fridge. It was so easy to have that added to my room for free. I also asked about hot water. They don't have kettles or coffee makers for you, but they did offer a microwave. The staff are incredible. Everyone was so lovely and friendly and just wanted me to have a wonderful stay. They all go above and beyond to bring you the best experience you could have. One of the staff is deaf and as someone who is hearing but has deaf friends that I speak a little ASL with, I enjoyed chatting with this person in sign. If you are deaf or are traveling with deaf people, I highly recommend staying here. You will have a friendly person to ask questions easily from and help you feel comfortable and safe. I really can't recommend OYO Times Square enough. It deserves...
Read moreAll about the location. RIGHT off of times square, easy access to pretty much every subway line for easy uptown, downtown, Brooklyn, etc.... Easily took the NJ Transit from Newark to Penn station and the subway up to times square for cheap transportation. We arrived at noon, but they checked our room and it was ready, so they happily let us in. I booked the room through VRBO and I'm pretty sure I paid more because of it. I had originally only booked 3 days via VRBO but once we were settled we decided to extend. I had to rebook via the website (not VRBO) and it was actually cheaper... As for the room - Basically, it was a queen bed with about 3 feet on one side, 2 feet on the other and about 2.5 feet at the foot of the bed. One small window in the bedroom with a view of a building (really couldn't even see daylight as the building was about 3 feet away. It had a bathroom at the foot of the bed that was a sink, toilet, and shower... It was small, but really it was all we needed. I was able to put my suitcase on the window sill, My daughter had hers on the floor on the other side of the bed. The building was secure, needed to use your key card to get the elevator to stop at your particular floor. The hotel staff was friendly... And the location was amazing. Also, there's a dunkin right across the street.. literally 25 steps away. With the Dunkin app I could order coffee and back to my room in 2 minutes. The street meat guy outside made my daughter the best lamb gyro she's had since Greece - which is not a compliment she gives lightly.
A few downfalls - the cleaning staff was so loud in the morning. Talking loudly right outside the room despite the zzzzz tag hanging on the door. We slept in a bit one morning (or tried) and not only were the housekeeping staff extremely loud. But there were workers directly outside the window. There was a blinking green smoke detector right over the bed... The blinking was maddening, and felt like a strobe light upon turning off the lights... But after an action packed day, we both commented on how annoying it was each night and then pulled a pillow over our heads and conked out. Our room was also very close to the elevator and people seemingly kept hitting the fire bell button through the night. But again, we were so tired we just went back to sleep.
I will say that the guy working the evening shift was so helpful when I returned from a panic stricken run across Broadway because I accidentally dropped my phone in a theater that had since been emptied out and locked. He was kind and was helping me hash a plan to have my phone mailed when the theater called to let me get my phone!
Despite the loud atmosphere due to loud housekeepers. I'd recommend this place and would...
