Maison De Gateaux — Restaurant in New York

UPDATE so I ordered my wedding cake here with the manager though email in June of 2024 (June 8th to be exact) and scheduled my pick up for August 8, 2024 (which was the date of my wedding) I even was in communication with the manager on how I went to the store to leave a $100 deposit - which was more than half the cost of the cake. Come August 8th when my now husband went to go pick up our wedding cake they told us they had no cake for us.. they even went as far as gaslighting my husband rudely saying “well it was ordered in June you sure it wasn’t picked up already” did she expect me to place the cake order from my wedding a week before? And I think he would know if someone picked up his WEDDING cake.. Instead of calling a manager right away to solve the problem the dumb employees proceeded to try to argue with my now husband before finally trying to call a manager… now just imagine how infuriating it is for a bride to have to sort this out the morning of her wedding (which resulted in us running behind on several other things) the manager however did call and sort of made up for his error by delivering the cake to me. This place is forever ruined for me now and I most likely won’t be returning, if you have a special event and wanna ensure you have a cake for that day you’re better off going to Martha’s or something cause there’s no telling these people won’t forget your cake the gaslight you about it lol- the owner said he delivered 2 tier cake instead of one - this was only because my MOTHER suggested the cakes be stacked because they originally said they would give 2 cakes since they didn’t have the size I originally ordered- and then the fee was only waived because I REFUSED to pay the remaining balance as this was agreed on before the manager called to say he was going to deliver the cake. Just to be clear this is in no way coming for the manager as the manger did everything correctly and more so a review of the employees as my husband had to ask several times for them to even contact a manager. The employees should contact a manager right away whenever an issue arises that they know are above them instead of trying to make the customer feel invalidated. Also just to add the desserts were extremely delicious...

The gateaux advertised look appetising enough, though not to my taste. The Caffè latte I ordered is also quite good. Those are the only upsides. Service is mediocre at best. Of the two young ladies on duty when I stopped by, the one behind the bakery counter was at least trying to be helpful and efficient, though she didn't inform me about an allergen in one of the items I ordered (cinnamon, usually not found in almond croissants). Her coworker (behind the coffee counter) was a frustrating combination of inefficiency and just poor manners. The customer before me had placed a rather large order, so some wait was to be expected -- but not nearly 10 mins, during which time she not only prepared the beverages ordered by this customer but kept chit-chatting with her and checking her phone. When (mercifully!) My turn came, the order had to be repeated to her several times, and she kept rearranging items on the counter and so forth, slowing things down even further. If I hadn't paid for my coffee up front, I would have left without...

I waited the absolute last minute to order a cake for my daughter's 18th birthday and Maison de Gateaux did not disappoint. I showed them an inspiration photo less than 2 weeks before the event, chose the flavors and prayed it was beautiful and delicious! I was able to pick up the cake at 9AM when they first opened the day after the holiday and crossed my fingers.

The cake was beautiful. No... It was simply STUNNING. It captured the color that I wanted for the cake and the simplicity of the design of it. My daughter loved the cake. It was also delicious (we ordered the lemon cake and cannoli; bottom and top tier respectively). It was also budget friendly. I got the 8" and 10" which was more than enough for sharing.
