Update: Makara management has replied to my review but I am unable to comment back so I will leave my reply here. I can assure you that I am not a local business owner, I am a residential neighbor. Yes, you do have neighbors on Northern Blvd. All of the businesses across the street from you have apartments on the upper floors, as do most buildings on Northern Blvd. since most of them are mixed use buildings.
As I said in my initial post, I have had no issue with this business until very recently that they have decided to exceed the allowed noise levels emanating from their establishment. On a night that they were particularly loud my husband even observed some firefighters standing outside of the firehouse and shaking their heads at the noise coming from Makara. Next time it happens I will be taking video of it and sending it to the appropriate people so that this may be taken care of.
Yes, Northern Blvd. does has a lively dining and bar scene but Makara has been taking the cake lately and its unacceptable. Be kind and courteous to your neighbors, most of us are the ones that patronize the businesses in our own neighborhood. If I could give 0 stars I would.
This place has been open for a bit and I always thought it was a great location. Since they have no DIRECT residential neighbors, they can play music louder than other places in the neighborhood and that's fine if that's what you are looking for.
My problem is that as of a few weeks ago they forgot that they DO HAVE residential neighbors close by. The music has been so loud and thumping that it can be heard and felt in apartments across the street and nearly a block away.
I understand that the weather is getting nicer and they want to open their wall of windows but so do I. I shouldn't have to close my windows on a beautiful night to try to mitigate the noise pollution from this place. I shouldn't be woken up in the middle of the night by a DJ on a microphone. Not only is it rude and obnoxious but it is breaking the law.
"According to the NYC Noise Code, music from commercial venues must not exceed 42 decibels as measured within a nearby residence. It also must not exceed 7 decibels over the ambient sound level during quiet hours, as measured on a nearby street or public area within 15 feet from the source."
I also can't help but wonder what other violations these people have. I hope they are at least providing ear protection for their employees. I'm pretty sure there is a labor...
Read moreThe anticipation in the neighborhood for this place opening was huge. So, I decided to book a table online in advance for my birthday dinner. Since the online system only allows reservations for 4 people and we are actually 6, I called to let them know we’d have two extra people so the table would be ready. The person who answered said they would call me back in a few minutes to confirm if it was possible. They obviously didn’t call back in the next 3 hours, so I decided to call again. Initially, they told me we’d only have 90 minutes to eat and drink because they were showing a football game. I explained that it was my birthday and I intended to eat, drink, and celebrate, and I wasn’t sure 90 minutes would be enough. The response was that it didn’t matter because they had already canceled my reservation, less than 24 hours before. The person on the phone showed no empathy, which I find terrible. They simply said that Makara wasn’t the place for me. It’s a shame they don’t value the local neighborhood, especially since it’s the locals who keep restaurants alive, particularly in this area. From now on, it’s clear that I have no intention of visiting them, and I will share this experience with others so they know what to expect...
Read moreTo Whom It May Concern,
I am writing to formally lodge a complaint regarding ongoing excessive noise disturbances caused by MAKARA. The issue primarily involves loud music and persistent bass vibrations that continue well into the early morning hours, often until 4:00 AM.
This disruption has severely affected my quality of life and sleep, and it is in direct violation of local noise ordinances and community standards. Despite the late hour, the volume and intensity of the music are unreasonably intrusive. I have taken video evidence documenting these disturbances, which I am prepared to share with the appropriate authorities if necessary.
I respectfully request that immediate action be taken to address this issue and prevent future disturbances. Should this behavior continue, I will not hesitate to...
