The Queensboro lost a loyal customer today. My family and I (+ my dog) came for brunch during the weekend and were seated by one of their fantastic waiters. I will admit that upon entering, my dog barked, but we were able to calm him down a few minutes into being seated - big thank you to the waiters for providing us with treats - they’ve always been so kind to us!
About 45 minutes after being seated, the owner/chef approached us and essentially threatened us saying something along the lines of “if your dog continues to bark, you won’t be allowed back, seriously.” — the “seriously” was actually said. I am appalled that as a “dog friendly” establishment, the owner couldn’t be a little bit more empathetic. While yes my dog was a little rowdy at the beginning, it was NOT my dog who was barking by the time he approached us, but instead the one behind us. In fact, he had been quiet for about 20 minutes already and was actually laying down quietly. As one would expect, the owner coming up to my dog triggered the barking again because who on earth expects a dog to be calm when a stranger is up close to his face.
The attitude left me no choice but to ask that my food be packed up so that I could leave. I refuse to support an establishment that threatens customers rather than approaching the situation in a more neutral way. I would have been more than happy to have dined outdoors, but that wasn’t even an option.. it was the immediate threat as if we had done something horribly wrong.
A real shame. Won’t...

I will admit that my dog is immediately reactive when people come too close or hover over him. After we quieted our dog down (which 25 mins had already gone by of him being calm with no barking thanks to a treat provided, which I greatly appreciated as a means to make him comfortable), while a dog on the other side was barking, the chef/co-owner Tony came by. Instead of approaching us like a normal person (and as a LEADER of a beloved community establishment), he hovered over my dog (causing him to bark at him) and threatened us by saying that we would “not be able to go there again, SeRiOuSlY” if he didn’t stop barking with a whole lot of attitude. You could’ve just said sorry I will have to ask you to leave because your dog won’t stop barking (which again, he had), & we would’ve respectfully left, or offered to sit us outside, but to threaten and try to intimidate instead of acting with the smallest inkling of manners is unacceptable. It’s ironic to place yourself in this community and tout positivity yet be rude to folks who frequent your establishment. I’m not responsible for you having a bad day.
Do better and lead by example—it sucks because Jose Alfredo and the rest of the crew are amazing, but I will not be...
Read moreThe Queensboro is a very popular spot in the neighborhood I grew up in , Jackson Heights. It's a very chill spot with tons of seating, which means never having to wait to be seated. The owners and servers are great. Very courteous and friendly and always happy to serve you. I only gave it a 4 star because it is very slow. The restaurant gets very busy, and they never seem to have enough servers to make the service very slow at times. The food, although great flavor, they are sometimes heavy-handed with salt. My pork carnitas dish was delicious but had too much salt for my taste, and I'm a Latina, and I love salt, so trust me, it was over salted. My son's burger was also too salty and couldn't finish it, so was my sister's steak. The appetizers, on the other hand, were delicious, especially the burrata salad with peaches. The saltyness of the burrata with sweetness of the peaches elevated the flavor. The drinks were good for half the table. Sangria was too dry for my parents, but perfect for my sister. My spicy margarita was flavorless. I could only taste the jalapeños, I couldn't finish it. My daughter, on the other hand, had a watermelon cocktail, sge loved, and brother in law had the grapefruit margarita, and he enjoyed his too. Maybe it was just my bad luck that night. I've been to The Queensboro many times, and I've enjoyed it, especially brunch, and I'm sure...
