Coming from a restaurant background. I will say that some of the staff are slightly unprofessional. Or rather just "lazy" within the workplace. The host poured himself and a customer a drink and proceeded to sit down two tables down from my partner and I. I decided not to order food beyond my nachos for two reasons. One being that my nachos happen to be burnt. The other is my waiter not only didn't return to my table but just walked in a circle around the bar. I'm going to clarify that the time was around 8:30~ on a Tuesday night. Definitely not a peak hour for this type of place. I would've ordered more food if only my waiter had walked anywhere near my table I don't believe I have to yell across the room to grab their attention. The buildings lights were very dim on the inside but overall the place was a good atmosphere. The staff could use a little more attentiveness. Especially if the nachos are going to be $16.00 all just to come burnt to my table. I can't say the food was terrible based off one dish however the staff seem to be a little distant minded at times....
Read moreSat at the bar last night (pleasantly crowded for 10p on St. Patrick’s) and had some really surprisingly good cocktails for not-a-stuffy-exclusive-hidden-under-the-ground-with-a-password cocktail bar. The strawberry Negroni was my favorite - a very slightly sweet, springy, tingly, effervescent twist on my go-to cocktail… and there’s a real strawberry inside of the ice cube! We had to order two of these and I’ll be back for another two to show my bartender partner. The blackberry bramble was deliciously herbal and even less sweet than the Negroni. I loved the spicy kick and the salt rim on what looks like it’s going to be a whole smoothie. I love surprise contradictions in food and drink :) And finally the Chelsea Star with passion fruit purée and whole side of Prosecco took me home with its mouth watering tartness. I don’t usually go for fruity cocktails but these managed to bring out the nuances of fruit flavor without drowning them out in a cloying dose simple syrup. And the bartender was very nice, informative, and made...
Read moreMy friend invited me to have dinner with him after going to an exhibit at the FIT museum. We sat outside and enjoyed a delicious meal at Merchants.
American fare, the menu essentially featured elevated pub dishes. We ordered the cheesy truffle potato wedges (although I didn't taste any truffle flavor. Maybe it was in the bacon aioli? I don't eat pork so I requested a Sriracha aioli instead.), avocado fries and carne asada tacos.
For dessert we ordered the sour cream apple walnut pie which comes from the Little Pie company. If you've never had this before, don't walk, run and try it.
To wash everything down, we ordered two cocktails: spiked lemonade and the southern bourbon peach tea. Although the spiked lemonade was good, I found the southern bourbon peach tea to be bitter. It was basically unsweetened peach iced tea with bourbon. I enjoy bourbon. However this was not my idea of a tasty cocktail.
Overall the food was high quality and the...
