Momoya in Chelsea offers an exceptional sushi experience that seamlessly blends traditional Japanese techniques with modern flair. This vibrant and stylish restaurant earns a well-deserved five-star rating for its fresh, high-quality ingredients and impeccable service.

Ambiance and Decor: Momoya’s interior strikes a perfect balance between contemporary elegance and traditional Japanese aesthetics. The sleek wooden furniture, minimalist decor, and soft, ambient lighting create a sophisticated yet welcoming atmosphere. The open sushi bar adds an interactive element, allowing diners to watch the skilled chefs at work.

Service Experience: The service at Momoya is outstanding. From the moment you are greeted at the door, the staff is attentive, knowledgeable, and courteous. They are more than happy to guide you through the menu, offer recommendations, and ensure that your dining experience is seamless and enjoyable.

Food and Drinks: Momoya’s menu features a wide array of sushi, sashimi, and other Japanese dishes, each prepared with the utmost care and precision. Here are some recommendations to enhance your dining experience:

Appetizers: Edamame: Steamed to perfection and lightly salted, these are a simple yet satisfying start to the meal. Tuna Tartare: Fresh tuna mixed with avocado, spicy mayo, and a touch of tobiko, served with crispy wonton chips. The flavors are vibrant and well-balanced. Shishito Peppers: Lightly blistered and sprinkled with sea salt, offering a mild heat and a burst of flavor.

Sushi and Sashimi: Omakase: Trust the chef and go for the omakase experience. Each piece of sushi is a work of art, featuring the freshest fish and beautifully crafted with precision. The selection changes based on the best seasonal ingredients. Toro (Fatty Tuna): Melts in your mouth with its rich, buttery texture and delicate flavor. A must-try for sushi lovers. Uni (Sea Urchin): Creamy and slightly sweet, uni is a delicacy that Momoya prepares exceptionally well.

Special Rolls: Momoya Roll: A signature roll featuring spicy tuna, avocado, and tempura flakes, topped with eel and a special house sauce. The combination of textures and flavors is divine. Rainbow Roll: A colorful and fresh roll with tuna, salmon, yellowtail, and avocado, showcasing the quality of the fish.

Main Courses: Black Cod with Miso: Tender, flaky black cod marinated in a sweet miso glaze, served with a side of pickled vegetables. The dish is perfectly balanced and utterly delicious. Chicken Teriyaki: Juicy chicken glazed with a rich teriyaki sauce, accompanied by steamed vegetables and rice. A comforting and satisfying option.

Desserts: Green Tea Mochi Ice Cream: A delightful end to the meal, with the chewy mochi exterior and creamy green tea ice cream inside. Tempura Cheesecake: A unique twist on the classic dessert, featuring a crispy tempura batter around a rich cheesecake filling.

Drinks: Sake Selection: Momoya offers an extensive sake list, with options ranging from light and crisp to rich and full-bodied. The staff can help you choose the perfect sake to complement your meal. Cocktails: Try the Momoya Martini, a refreshing blend of sake, vodka, and cucumber, or the Yuzu Mojito for a citrusy twist on a classic cocktail.

Overall Impression: Momoya in Chelsea excels in every aspect, from its stylish ambiance and top-notch service to its exquisite sushi and well-crafted dishes. Each bite is a testament to the chefs’ dedication to quality and tradition. Whether you’re a sushi aficionado or new to Japanese cuisine, Momoya promises an unforgettable dining experience that will leave you eager to return.

A Culinary Symphony at Momoya - An Experience Not to be Missed!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

From the moment we stepped into Momoya, it was clear that we were in for an unforgettable dining experience. The ambiance is an alluring fusion of modern elegance and traditional Japanese charm. It’s the perfect backdrop for the culinary symphony that is about to be performed on your palate.

We began our meal with some tantalizing appetizers. The Warm Mushroom Salad was an ode to the earthy essence of mushrooms, bathed in a delicate and flavorful dressing that had us scraping the plate. Another showstopper was the Eggplant Miso - the soft, smoky eggplant blanketed in a rich miso glaze was nothing short of divine. The pièce de résistance in the appetizer department was the Tuna Tortilla. Imagine the freshest tuna, seasoned to perfection, perched atop crisp tortilla triangles. Simple yet revolutionary!

Then the sushi rolls began to arrive, and we were swept away in a whirlwind of taste and texture. The Salmon Crunch Roll was an extravaganza of flavors with every bite, the perfect harmony of salmon with a crunch that makes your taste buds dance - a well-deserved 10/10.

The Crispy Rice Roll was an ensemble of textures with the crispy rice forming the stage for the topping's star performance - another 10/10 without hesitation.

The Nakamura Roll was an opus of traditional meets innovation, encapsulating the essence of Japanese cuisine with a contemporary twist.

As we progressed, the Black Dynamite Roll proved its name. It exploded with flavors so dynamic, it was like fireworks in our mouths.

The grand finale was the Momoya Spicy Tuna. An impeccable fusion of spice and pristine tuna that was a match made in heaven. This dish encapsulated everything Momoya stands for - quality, flavor, and innovation.

The staff was gracious and knowledgeable. Their recommendations were spot on, and their service was seamless.

As we walked out, we left with full bellies and even fuller hearts. If gastronomy is an art, Momoya is its Michelangelo. This was not just a meal; it was a journey through the zenith of Japanese cuisine. Whether you are a sushi aficionado or new to Japanese fare, Momoya is a gem that should not be missed.

If I could give more stars, I would. Highly, highly recommended.

Legit sushi in an unexpected neighborhood with an unexpectedly elegant decor. Authentic Japanese food tends to cluster into tight areas within NYC where Japanese owners have built up miniature communities. The two most obvious such areas are the East Village where 9th Street has turned into a mini-Osaka complete with a takoyaki stand and Hell's Kitchen where Japanese restaurants dot virtually every street. These clusters are usually the safest areas to venture for sushi, but every so often you find a gem in an unexpected place.

Momoya is just such a space. The decor is hip and modern. The staff is attentive. The food is remarkably good while the menu itself is expansive beyond the expected sushi with a large number of tapas-style small dishes like black cod in miso and fried shishito peppers. The oyster shot was astoundingly good. A kumamoto oyster, ponzu sauce, and a raw quail egg. Really great. The yellowtail and jalepeno was perfect. A standard dish these days in sushi joints, but for some reason it just goes so well together. The gyoza have a super thin, hand made skin. These are definitely made on site - no food service gyoza has that delicate an exterior.

There is pretty much something for everyone. Drinks wise it's strictly beer, sake, and wine. While I was disappointed the beer was not on draft, that's a minor concern. The sake list contains some very nice choices for those so inclined. Let's call this a 3.5 star review. It would be a 4 star review with draft beer and a full liquor license. The food prices demand a full service bar.

Should I find myself in lower Chelsea again searching for some good Japanese food I'll certainly remember Momoya. If it were in my own neighborhood I'd be there...

Listen the food is good but the second time I came in here I did not appreciate the way my friend was treated. Food: mushroom soup is fire. Miso soup is good too but mushroom is better. Shumai- this was so damn good we got a second order. Chicken teriyaki was also really good. Also all the sushi is really good. There was nothing that wasn’t a hit. Also sake ugh it was so good. We got the dassai 45. Onto why I won’t be coming back: my friend came in with her service dog. She’s a very anxious person so she needs her pup. One of the staff members approached us and was really really loud about it. “MA’AM YOU CANNOT HAVE A DOG IN HERE AND YOU CANT SIT IN THE OUTSIDE SECTION EITHER. WE RAN INTO ISSUES WITH SANITATION. OH ITS A SERVICE DOG?? FOR WHAT?” My friend was getting visibly uncomfortable, this staff member drew so much attention to her because she couldn’t speak calmly or quietly. It was so rude. My friend politely reminded her that you cannot ask for why she has her dog but said she has her paper work. Staff member said “OKAY LET ME SEE. LISTEN WE JUST CANT RISK GETTING IN TROUBLE AGAIN SO IF YOU CAN JUST TELL ME WHY YOU NEED THIS DOG HERE.” My friend left because she was shaking from the anxiety and attention the staff member drew to us. It just didn’t need to be like that she just kept dragging a situation and escalating it when it was very unnecessary. Very poorly handled situation. Very disappointing.
