The wasn't much good about our recent stay here. I'll start with the good however. The Location: The hotel has a great location in Midtown Manhattan. It's close to the subway stops for the 1 train and R and W trains. It is in walking distance to the Flatiron and there is lots of restaurants and shops around the area. The Room: The room was spacious and was a nice place to sleep. The beds were large and comfortable. There was a large bathroom and soap, shampoo and conditioner is provided. The air conditioner was a little loud but was fine for me as I'm used to sleeping with white noise in the background however it may be annoying for some. The wardrobe was a little small but the safe is free to use. The fridge was small but perfectly sized for our stay. The room however lacked surfaces and could've done with more storage space. We had to lay our clothes over the table in the room as there was nowhere elese to put them, but all in all, not too bad. The reception staff: The staff at reception were very kind and helpful and were one of the few good parts during our stay. When checking in and out, it was speedy and politley greeted us each time we entred the lobby. Now on with the bad. The cleaning: The cleaning of the room was okay during our stay hower there were two problems I had with it. Firstly, I ended up finding some toenail clippings from the last people on the floor of the room by my bed which was definetly below standard. When in hotel rooms, I expect the room to be cleaned to a high standard meaning NO TOENAIL CLIPPINGS ON THE FLOOR. Secondly, one day, I found that we had been given a bloody flannel. The flannel had not been cleaned to the standard you would expect. I was desgusted to find this as all the other towels and flannels we were given had been properly cleaned and bleached. Where the cleaning got bad was with the breakfast area. All the tables were sticky and it jut felt dirty evrywhere however, when considering the breakfast, the cleanliness wasn't the worst part. Breakfast: The breakfast served here was awful, there were wasn't much that was good. While staying here, all I ended up having for breakfast here was muffins, waffles and toast. The bread wasn't the best, it felt very processed and was brioche which wasn't the best for toast. The muffins were topped with crumb which was fine but is got everywhere. The cooked breakfast looked desgusting, I personally didn't try it because of how awful it looked however my sister did and said that it was not good at all. The worst part about the breakfast was the crockery. The plates, bowls and cups were all paper and that is simply just a big no-no. The cutlery was also plastic and whats worse, most of it was wrapped in more plastic. Before eating, you had to brush the cutlery to remove any leftover wrap. Honestly, it was the most dissapointing hotel breakfast I've had. The 24 hour Coffee: It was nice to have this provided by the hotel in the lobby. There was also the choice of tea and hot chocolate. However, the coffee didn't taste the best and they were often cold, especially the 'hot' water. What was also annoying is that the only time decaf coffee was provided was at breakfast. This made no sense to me as if your going to provide decaf, you should provide it all the time. My last problem was the cup lids. Halfway during our stay, they changed the lids from an option that fits the cups to one that doesn't. You had to force the lids onto the cups and be careful where you held the cup as the lid was likley to fall off. This was especially annoying when the beverage was piping hot.
All in all, the stay was not the best, I will definetly not stay here again and if you are planning to stay here, I would urge you...
Read moreWe stayed here for 10 nights during our New York trip and we were very satisfied. I'd definitely come back, should I ever visit nyc again.
Room: The room was clean and the bed sheets were changed at least twice while we stayed there, even though we chose to have housekeeping clean our room 4 times in total. The bed was large and comfortable. The room was equipped with a refrigerator and usb outlets were available at multiple sites in the room. A hair dryer is provided. Hard soap, body wash, shampoo and lotion are also available in the bathroom. A big flat screen TV is placed in front of the bed, which we didn't use. A small closet is available and an iron and ironing table were placed inside the closet. The room size was okay. I have stayed in smaller and similarly sized rooms all across europe, so I don't know why people are complaining about the hotel room sizes in nyc. What I was missing, was a luggage rack to place our suitcases on. The suitcases had to be placed on the ground and we had two relatively large pieces.
Breakfast: We didn't think breakfast was included in our package deal when we booked. However, we were pleasantly surprised to find out breakfast is a standard amenity, which is provided to all the guests at the hotel. The breakfast was okay. Coming from Europe, we are used to a wide variety of cheeses and sausages along with fresh produce such as tomatoes and cucumbers being served for breakfast, which is not the case here. However, there are fresh fruits available (bananas, apples and oranges). Different types of muffins, whole grain and white toast bread and bagels are served. There is warm oatmeal and a few types of cereals available. They also serve some warm dishes. Every morning they either serve a cheese omelette or scrambled eggs along with turkey or peppoeroni sausage and french toast or baked potato pieces. The taste is okay but it's nothing special. What I really liked though, were the fresh waffles which you can make yourself on site. I definitely recommend the vanilla batter 😁! My biggest disappointment was the coffee. If you like good coffee, definitely get it from a cafe nearby because the provided coffee at the hotel doesn't taste or smell good. An assortment of tee and fresh orange and apple juice are also available.
Location: The hotel is situated conveniently close to a few attractions and several subway stations. However, at times I thought it wasn't the best of places with all the homeless people and drug addicts around yet we never felt unsafe. If you are not used to living in a large city, this might be different for you. While the hotel is in a very busy area, it is located in a side street which is quiet and feels far away from the hustle and bustle of the surrounding streets, which provided us with quiet nights and a restful sleep. There is a Trader Joe's and CVS within five walking minutes from the hotel. We saw at least 3 Starbucks and one Dunkin donuts nearby. Several other restaurants are also close to the hotel, which is very convenient for a late night dinner after a long day of walking and sightseeing. A few good bagel...
Read moreEither these people do not comprehend the core values of the hospitality industry or they could simply care less. My guess is the latter, unfortunately. Earlier this week (12/22/15) I booked a two night stay but needed to leave & return to Philadelphia to attend to urgent family matters after only 8 hours at the hotel. I left the hotel several times but only encountered an employee at the desk upon check-in. My final exit at 5am was no exception so I decided to keep trucking, a terrible move in hindsight. There was a thick fog driving home so the trip took 2.5 hours but once situated, I called the hotel to let the front desk know that I had left & would not be returning. I wanted to know if there were fees associated with cancelling the second night as I had booked through Expedia & wanted to know the refund amount. I was told by a lady whose name I don't remember (D'Oh!) that there were no fees & that a full refund for that night would be forthcoming & that she would handle the checkout. Apparently immediately after we hung up a fire must have broke out or something because later that afternoon while on hold with Expedia as they got verification from the hotel that I had checked out so they could issue a refund the guy came back on the line to tell me that the room was still checked in. I immediately called the hotel back & after a brief hold, the front desk agent returned to tell me that her manager would make the necessary adjustment. I decided to give it a bit of time before I called Expedia to verify checkout & when I did the rep told me that the hotel refused to give any information (I've worked in hotels so I know this is a common practice that is regularly done) as if it were highly classified. Again I immediately called the hotel & again they still had not adjusted the checkout date. This was an hour ago, Xmas afternoon. It wouldn't be so bad if these were the only calls I had made to the hotel but I have also been calling since Wednesday about a Sonicare DiamondClean toothbrush several times a day attempting to get housekeeping to check for a Sonicare DiamondClean toothbrush but have been unable to get ANYONE from that department on the phone. I have left four messages, all unanswered & after speaking in great detail about it with someone at the front desk she ended up being about as helpful as her co-worker concerning the checkout date. Long story short, you should always write down the name & time of the person you speak with when dealing with customer service matters, never leave $200 toothbrushes in hotels & DEFINITELY NEVER stay at this...
