AR Hair Salon — Local services in New York

Worst experience with Albert. I came in for a haircut expecting long layers and only 1-2 inches off my curly, long hair. I showed some reference pictures too — all long hair pics. You can see my attached photos.

He barely looked at the photos, didn’t ask me any questions and quickly cut off 6-8 inches. He would’ve kept going if I didn’t make a big deal out of it and ask him to stop. Now i’m left with shoulder length hair that looks even shorter since my hair is curly. Also there are no long layers anymore due to the short length of the hair, which is not suited for curly hair. He tried to cut some strange layers which makes the hair stick out above the shoulders giving it a triangular shape instead of volume at the top (see my attached photo). I need to get a new haircut to correct this botched job which will make my length even shorter. Poor example of not listening or respecting the customers needs. Ruined both my length and my haircut!!

Instead of apologizing or offering a refund, the stylist and his coworkers then tried to gaslight me saying this is the length he showed with his fingers. It was not. Also he said it’ll take a few days to getting used to — no, it’ll take a few years for it to grow back. The nerve.

I’m sorry I came here, and immensely regret my experience. 2 years of growing my hair out, all gone in 20 mins because I stepped foot into the wrong salon. I will not be coming back. Please avoid or you’ll be left in...

Don’t be fooled by the reviews - I’m sure they were paid for! I received the worst service I’ve ever experienced in New York City, and a spoilt birthday party! Look at the pictures below:

1. is my hair after 1,5 hours of torture in this salon, after the “specialist” did 2 attempts to curl my hair, with an iron and then with a cone. Picture taken 10 minutes after leaving the salon (and there was NO rain or wind outside!!!!) can you believe I paid $55 for it.?????

It says it all about the salon!!! Totally UNPROFESSIONAL!!! The lady didn’t know what she was doing. I ended up going home and washing it off at once!!! My boyfriend tried to comfort me but my birthday was completely spoilt! Look at it closely! Those are not curls, not even waves - it’s was a complete mess! Moreover, the atmosphere is sick at the salon. Whatever I think about the lady that attended me - it’s one thing, but I had to listen the other “specialists” gossip her behind her back, in her presence, talking the language she doesn’t understand and not knowing that I perfectly understood everything they said. It’s a snake nest, not a hair salon, and don’t waste your nerves, time...

I've been going to Arthur himself for 11 years now. I will never go anywhere else. They are amazing. This is the only place I've ever been that when they cut my hair and style it, I'm confident that it will look the same when I style myself later. That's saying something about their skills. Other places I've been give you the look you want but when you have to style yourself later it looks nothing like what they gave you. This in not the case. You tell them what type of up keep you want to do and they will take that into account when cutting your hair. They also are very conscious of not wanting to damage your hair. I've gotten my hair colored there before and they will tell you honestly if what you want doable for your hair and offer options. They won't dye it any which way and let your hair fall out just to make money. They really care and are very passionate about what they do.They are so welcoming. I can't say enough good things about them. I recommend them to everyone and every single person has stuck...
