Mike's Royal Diner — Restaurant in New York

The diner was very clean. I did have to stand at the counter waiting for someone to welcome me while all the staff were just staring at me which was odd. But eventually someone told me just have a seat anywhere.

The food was nothing like what I expected nor did it match photos on the printed menu they provided. To start off, I ordered the Mac and cheese bites. They looked more like chicken nuggets and were over fried to the point of being rock hard. And they came with a side of processed cheese sauce to dip them in. The flavor in each bite was essentially nonexistent. 1/10 on the bites.

I then ordered the broiled fish fillet with a side of mashed potatoes and broccoli. The fish looked nothing like the photo on the menu. The menu photo looked amazing but the fish I was served looked like frozen fillet and it had virtually no color and they flooded the plate with the butter sauce from the fish. The mashed potatoes were instant mash and very gritty and off color. I added just a tad bit of gravy (presumably from a can) and it just made the mash into a soup. The broccoli was well cooked but very cold and not much flavor in each bite. The entree gets a 2/10 only because the fish tasted decent. I did appreciate the soft drinks being provided in a can versus a machine so I didn’t have to worry about a dirt fountain machine or improper mixture of carbonated water with the soda mix.

Also, the chicken noodle soup was 90% celery and onion. Only 2 pieces of carrot and 3-4 small pieces of chicken. And the noodles were mushy and over cooked. And the soup broth was mainly oil and water.

The service was subpar. When the waiter came to gather my finished plates, he only took one of 4 dishes away, leaving the table with 3 dirty dishes on it. I also sat there waiting a good 15 minutes for someone to offer me the check.

We had stopped ordering this diner after finding staples in our food on two separate occasions. Then the place was sold, and we started ordering again. Everything was fine until recently when the woman who takes the phone orders started acting all distracted. Deliveries started arriving with things missing (coffee) or cheeseburgers without buns, I said no onions, and in her distraction she wrote down the wrong thing. Then I found a hair in the home fries. I decided to give them one more chance. I called in an order that I was going to pick up. When I got there, the woman was distracted talking to the cook, she had her back to the counter and the cook was not wearing a cap or net over his hair. The food was not ready yet even after I waited over 20 minutes to come for my food. When I looked at the order, I noticed that the bacon, egg and cheese sandwich did not have bacon. Immediately she said I didn't order it, which I certainly did. When I placed the order with her on the phone she put me on hold a couple of times for long periods. Seems as if instead of telling the other callers that she would take their orders after she finished taking mine, she just left me on hold while she took theirs. After I pointed out the mistake with the bacon, she didn't even try to fix the problem, she just blamed me for it. Hence I will not order from this...

First time at this place. There was 9 people at the time of my visit however only 1 person by the name Jessica ,taking care of everyone. I waited 10min and nobody bother to ask me what I want. I took my bag and moved to the counter because there was a young guy working at the register. He did no bother either ,was to busy talking to a costumer across the table. At that time Jessica came over to get some drinks and I brought to her attention I've been waiting over 10min at the table and now at the counter .She was very apologetic ,friendly and took my order right away. She asked the guy ("supposly" working the register & counter) for help. It really was a heavy load for help. She was very busy. Finally the guy started getting things ready for her and Someone from the back came to take orders by phone because the young guy ,I guess ,left after a few minutes to do something else. I was not ask if I need it more coffe or giving any water at all.I have to ask for my check . Unless you plan to seat and wait I don't recommend this place.I can only imagine what kind of service you get when the place is...
