When visiting NYC, Milk Bar was on my 'must visit' list. I had learned about it from a Netflix documentary quite some time back. I'm drawn to the creative concept and the fact that Milk Bar appears to live up to the hype based on the amounts of outlets open today.
The shop layout is minimalistic but somewhat stylish. My favorite was the neon sign, it gives a cool vibe. The store has a few seating opportunities, but seems to be made mainly for takeout. The shop has a small merchandise area, I've included it in my photos.
Milk Bar only offers desert style food. Cake, cookies, sweet treats and ice cream.
It was mandatory for me to order a slice of their famous birthday cake. This is the cake that made the brand known and famous. It's sponge cake with sprinkles baked in the dough, frosting and more sprinkles. The cake looks really fun! Unfortunately, for my European taste the cake was too sweet to eat. I felt quite disappointed by that. I had to fight to eat half of the cake, then I could not go on anymore. It was the sweetest cake I've ever tasted in my life. The frosting is lemon taste, which helped to eat the half piece of cake, but also the frosting is very sweet, though not as sweet as the cake dough.
I wanted to buy an ice as well. The store employee was nice enough to let me sample the two ice cream tastes they have, which seems to be common as I also saw others taste the ice cream. Unfortunately, I did not like neither of the ice cream. I got to give kudos to the creative concept though. The ice cream does taste like cereal milk, but for me it was not the good part of cereal but the bad. I enjoy cereal the most, not the leftover milk. Milk bar offers the traditional cereal milk ice cream and one version that I'd call fruit loops milk.
I really wanted to love this place, but unfortunately I did not enjoy their products. The staff was very friendly. It would be great if in the future the birthday cake would be available in half as sweet and 25% as sweet, maybe even less. I'd definitely give it...
Read moreAmazing service and staff members at the west village location, 10/10. I visited on 1/20 & 1/21 and the staff working were so friendly and helpful. Upon returning home I received a message on Instagram from the manager Mikayla that I had left something behind. It was then I realized I left my whole wallet there and she had found me on Instagram to let me know. All of my cards, about $200 cash and multiple ID’s were in there. She ensured me it was safe and that I could come the next day to pick it up. On 1/21/25 I returned and asked for Alexis, another manager and she was so friendly and helpful as well. Gave me a complimentary pack of truffles which she did not have to do, couldn’t believe how sweet that was. Got my wallet and all its contents back safe and sound. Little things like this restore my faith in humanity. Truly can’t thank them enough!! We also enjoyed walking around more in the adorable little neighborhood where it’s located. The desserts are on point too, very delicious! Worth the visit and they have lots of options. Thank you...
Read moretl; dr: cereal milk was good but ridiculously-priced now. so long, good friend.
came here for desserts after our dinner in the area. bf had never been to Milk Bar so i figured i can introduce him to the infamous cereal milk soft serve. i got the original and he went with the chocolate milk, both with corn flakes topping.
the soft-serve was as good as i remembered: corn flakes-infused soft serve base that had a hint of saltiness (we love a balanced dessert!) and the salty corn flakes was a nice topping. we liked it but at roughly $19, it's really hard to justify coming here repeatedly. frankly, i can get more ice cream elsewhere, but for less $. it also seemed like Milk Bar has become more commercialized, popping up on the shelves at your Target store and cookies and treats in the store were nicely pre-packaged.
gone are the days of Christina Tosi's whacky-but-fun, creative treats, and in comes the commercialization of Milk Bar. not a huge fan of this trajectory and i doubt i will frequent it...
