I’d say this was a pretty mixed experience as it was a fairly small casual vibe with food that was hit or miss.
In a group of 3 we shared: chicken 65, a tandoori platter, and a chicken biryani. The chicken 65 was an appetizer that had a fair amount of chicken that was sweet with hints of spices. Tasty. The platter came with a combination of 3 pieces of chicken, lamb, minced lamb, and minced chicken. It also came with a side of naan, dal, and jasmine rice. The minced meats were really underwhelming as it tasted as I was eating salty sausages which isn’t ideal for dinner time. The pieces of lamb were tough and lacked flavor. The pieces of chicken were the only heroes of the platter as they were somewhat juicy and really flavorful. As for the sides the jasmine rice looked really underwhelming and the dal lacked flavor, meanwhile the naan was tasty enough it worked with the dal (nothing special). The rice in the biryani was nicely cooked/ toasted so it was both flavorful and satisfying to eat. I didn’t touch the chicken in the biryani as it was a lot of food. The mango lassi was again nothing special but still satisfying with its yogurty sweetness with hints of sour.
The server frequently checked on us and made sure we had enough water so he was great. It helped the restaurant was fairly small but only in a casual environment. I wouldn’t go on a date here or anything.
Overall I had a lot of food for a reasonable price so I’m not really complaining. Unfortunately the food just wasn’t anything to be excited about. So it’s a great last minute place for Indian food but I wouldn’t plan...
Read moreWe've been coming here regularly for the past five years and loved the food, but yesterday was a terrible experience. We reached at 8:30 PM, which is well over an hour before the closing time listed, and asked for a table for two. The host said, "No more customers. No no no," all in the same breath while the person I went with, had only just asked for a table once. I was waiting outside because it was full and the restaurant is pretty small. The host recognized me waiting outside the restaurant, and also knew the person who had just asked him for a table. We left without any protest because we are not going to plead to give someone business. We were able to find a great new spot that we will be going to from now on. If they were closing earlier, he could have just said it politely instead of being rude about it, and he knows that we have been dining here for years. We understand that things happen and would have understood if there had been some sort of explanation for why they were not taking any more people, or like I said, simply been polite. I'm giving two stars instead of one, because we did have better experiences before, but we did not take the train for an hour to be turned away when the restaurant has failed to adhere to the hours that they...
Read moreThe food is bland at Mint Masala and not anywhere near authentic. I wish I had read the reviews before my daughters and I decided to go to this restaurant. We chose it solely for its proximity to us. Big mistake. Though the service was good the food was not. We ordered Chicken Masala and Palak Paneer. The Chicken Masala was devoid of the expected Indian seasonings and tasted like Chef Boyardee SpaghettiOs and yet the price was fifteen times higher. The Palak Paneer was equally unseasoned and tasted almost like the creamed spinach one would find in the freezer section of a grocery store. But again the price reflected something much different. I should have sent the food back immediately. Instead I let my unhappiness ruin everyone's mood. I also should have left a better tip because the server wasn't bad. She kept my water cup filled. Many restaurants don't do this. A few days later we went to a different Indian restaurant in Manhattan called Sathi and we couldn't have been happier. It's worth a trip there if you want authentic and delicious...
