We had booked 3 rooms for 3 nights, 2 Kings and one 1-bedroom king suite. ||On arrival at nearly 4pm the king rooms were still not available for check in despite check in being at 3pm. The exterior of the building is shabby and the lobby was small, dark and more like a hostel than a hotel.||The 1-bedroom king suite was ready for check in so we paid for that room (nearly $600 a night) and got the key. We had booked this room as we were 3 colleagues and the living room gave us a base to work from in between scheduled meetings.||The suite was on the 19th floor and only on elevator was working for the whole building so it took a few minutes to get the elevator to arrive.||When we got to the room we were shocked as it bore no resemblance to the description or photos for the room we booked. The room we were given was a small queen double room, with a single seater sofa. There was absolutely no sign of the living room, the 3 seater sofa, the mini kitchen or the spacious living area all detailed in the room description and in the room photos. Also the bed was a queen not a king. The room itself was noisy, old, grubby and had a stained bare floor and peeling privacy plastic on the windows of the shower. ||We assumed that we had been allocated an incorrect room so had to go back to lobby to ask to be moved to the right room category.||At reception we were at first gaslit by reception staff who tried to say we were 'mistaken' about the description of the room category we had booked, that this was indeed a 'one bed suite' and that we were in the right room. They said website pictures 'could not be trusted' as they could be of 'any room' not specific to the category type. ||We had to pull up the very clear room description from our booking confirmation and the specific attached room category pictures and show them these before the reception staff admitted that the room we had been allocated did not at all match the description of what was booked. I also pointed out that in absolutely no world was this a room worth $600 a night.||The reception team said they had no other available options so offered an immediate penalty free cancellation for the room. They refused however to let us cancel the other 2 rooms without a 1-night penalty per room even though all 3 rooms were part of the same booking and we were clearly travelling as a group. Very poor.||One of our party decided to just stay the night rather than lose the cost as a penalty. The other one and I both left, which cost us $250 for a penalty for her room which was a disgrace.||The one who stayed for that fist night was given a shabby room that stank of cigarette smoke despite it supposedly being a non smoking property. ||Would never ever stay here again and 100% do not...
Read moreWe were looking to stay in Soho and wanted to save on accommodations so we can do some extra shopping and enjoy restaurants in the city. The pictures of Soho54 looked decent online and thought the rate was still pricey on a holiday weekend, but this was less expensive than other hotels in the area. I didn't mind outdated furniture, but was hoping for cleanliness, and liked the fact that they were supposed to have a bar in the hotel to hang out in before calling it a night. Unfortunately, I was disappointed the moment I arrived. The lobby was super tight, and the so-called bar was closed and non-functional. We had asked if we can be on the same floor (via email pre-departure) of the other couple travelling with us, and had no reply. Even when we asked at arrival, they said they couldn't accommodate us. Our room was very small and outdated. The furniture was ancient, the couch by our bed had what seemed to be a cigarette hole in it, the wallpaper was torn and yellowed in tone, the bathroom sink counter was detached from the wall (if you lean on it, it may drop), the tiles in our shower looked fairly new but the shower stalls had visible grime and rust, the soap dish was cracked, and the furniture looked like it was borrowed from 1950. No effort on the part of management to clean up the hotel and rooms, not even basic maintenance. The positive in this experience: the location was great (they had a nearby lot accommodate for parking, but 65$USD + tax daily, no deal for hotel guests). The staff was nice, one of the team members was really kind to let us take as many water bottles as we needed since it was super hot out. Then you have the guy who says he'll have housekeeping bring up towels asap, and it never happened. I get it, New York City is expensive, but what we paid was high for this experience and for the quality of this property. For those looking for a place to rest for the night and not really looking for comfort, this could be a good choice, like I said - location was great. However, this place did not meet my standards for a "home away from home" nor my standards of...
Read moreOverall, for the price I paid this was pretty poor all round and I’m struggling to find something positive to say. The location was good? I guess. I know it’s not the finest hotel in NYC, and with that my expectations were low. Somewhere to rest between my planned activities was all i wanted. Somehow, this hotel didn’t even meet my low expectations. The room smelled like a subway and when we mentioned that to then - in addition to the fact we had not received any housekeeping for the whole time we’d been there thus far and were out of soap, towels and toilet paper - they seemed apologetic, but ultimately didn’t do anything. We ended up getting housekeeping once for our 5 night stay. I seemed to get conflicting responses as to whether this was normal, or if we were supposed to “request” it, as each person I spoke with seemed to have a different response to that, but when I booked the hotel stated we received “daily” housekeeping and there was no implication a request was required, nor was I told to when I checked in. Additionally, and perhaps most frustratingly, one of the two elevators was down for the duration of the stay. This wouldn’t have been so bad if it wasn’t for the fact that the staff were using the elevators constantly to search for other staff by pressing every floor and sticking their heads out before continuing on. We were forced to either wait up to 20 minutes for an elevator, or climb the 11 flights of stairs up and down to our room to meet reservation times we’d set. When we mentioned this to the staff, they just shrugged and said “the lift is broken” and didn’t even offer an apology or even seem to care. I get it, the elevator is broken but then perhaps staff shouldn’t be using it to poke their heads around and look for other staff members at the expense of their guests. My recommendation to anyone looking to stay here is spend the extra money on a nicer hotel that will treat you like a human being and give you the basic amenities they list...
