Came here for the first time last night to see KHAAAAAN, the Star Trek musical parody. The show was fantastic, but this review is for the venue so I'll stay focused. The staff are super sweet, the theatre itself is a little small, but not detrimentally so, it makes for an intimate performance, we were about halfway back house right, and it felt like the actors were RIGHT ON TOP of us, and making direct eye contact several times.
My only complaints could be directed at merch and amenities, but I'm certain merch falls on the show production and not the venue, so it would be an unfair demerit. The bathroom situation is weird, however. You have to exit the venue to go nextdoor through a connecting side door, go down a flight of stairs, and into a very cramped and poorly thought out restroom. Well, at least the mens' room was. The only hand dryer was placed right next to the door, not the sink, and was wedged snugly between the wall, and a urinal divider. You stand uncomfortably close, immediately behind some guy peeing while you attempt to dry your hands. It's not inherently bad, but I'd imagine access for the disabled is a nightmare, given the required stairs.
The only refreshments offered in-theatre were bottled water, unnamed wine & beer on the menu and two options of prepackaged snacks. It's not a BAD setup for their situation, and though I feel like we entered unprepared, I'm willing to accept fault for lack of prior research.
This may read mostly negative, but don't take it that way, these are ultimately nitpicks about what was overall a wonderful experience. Would definitely return, for...
Read moreI saw a Children's production here and this theater is not children friendly. It is a very small intimate theater. However It was very cold and the sound wasn't great. They provide children seat assists but it was still hard for little ones to see the stage. The bathrooms are in the basement down a long flight of stairs. New Yorkers are resilient but it's nice to know these things before attending so you can plan accordingly. I do want the commend the floor manager Ms Lamb. She was very amazing. Very friendly but also kept the seating disciplined. I was impressed. Key attention to details and she has excellent anticipation of problems so they were avoided for the cast. She worked very hard and deserves a raise. Now for productions that are not focused on a child it's a...
Read moreA rude staff with unrealistic expectations for an audience of children. One female staff member actually hit me in the arm to express her displeasure that my 2 year old son was eating a slice of an apple in the theatre. Another staff member thought it would be appropriate to select me and my son to make an example of in the middle of the show, loudly threatening to "move us to the back" after my son whispered a question about the show. Plenty of other children had been louder, and after all they are children. We will never ever return, nor will our family. There are plenty of venues with more respect for their patrons and more reasonable expectations for...
