I’ve given this place several chances, but I can’t overlook the evident racism they show towards Black people. It’s frustrating to think that those who harbor such strong hatred towards Black Americans would choose to open a restaurant in Harlem, a community primarily populated by Black residents.
Their dismissive attitude is hard to ignore, especially if you’re not speaking Spanish; it has become quite bothersome. On March 26, I went to this location to pick up an order I had placed through the Too Good To Go app. Unfortunately, I was met with the same poor service as always. There was hardly anyone inside, just a few servers behind the counter who seemed more focused on pretending to be busy until a Dominican customer walked in. It was painfully obvious.
When I showed the woman behind the counter my order on my phone, she told me to swipe, and right after I marked it as “picked up,” she immediately turned her attention to a Dominican man who had just arrived. There was no acknowledgment of my presence, no apology or courtesy like “one second, please.” She simply turned her back on me, dismissing me completely.
I started to panic because I’d experienced this behavior before where they took my money and I had to place a new order, but that wasn’t going to happen this time. I observed them, and it’s clear they prioritize serving Dominican or white people, while Black men just get ignored.
A few random workers eventually joined in, and one even told me to “relax” and accused me of being entitled, claiming to have noticed me since I walked in ten minutes ago. Really? They stood around doing nothing while I waited for a prepaid order ten minutes ago when there was no one else in line. Is it entitled to expect the food I’ve already paid for? The level of ignorance and racism displayed here from people who have somehow managed to run a business is staggering. It’s puzzling how they’re allowed to continue operating in NYC, but if there’s any justice, their days...
Read moreHow was the ordering experience? I went past the seating to the back of the restaurant where the cashier was stationed. I ordered and another employee had to come out to better understand my American accent (they all spoke English, but the WAY I spoke English threw some of them off). I grabbed a seat and waited. I would suggest calling in your order ahead of time (if you aren’t afraid of those Yelp reviews). Overall, the ordering experience was pleasant. My food was ready in about 15 minutes. The podcast I was listening to wasn’t even over yet!
How delicious was the food? Delicious! The bread was the first thing that stuck out to me. It was that flaky, crispy hero bread that is so amazing. Biting in, the steak flavors, the sauces, the veggies on there. Wow. So good. My fiance was in total agreement as well. This thing was awesome
Did it fill me up for $5 or less? It absolutely filled me up. The final cost was $5 with no tax – right on the cusp of the Cheap Eats cutoff. But it was so good that it was worth going to the brink of what I was willing to pay. And in the grand scheme of New York food, this is a steal.
Conclusion: If you are a steak sandwich person, check this out. I do want to try their chicken sandwich, ham and cheese sandwich, and Cuban sandwich as well. It was so good that I have faith that their other offerings will be...
Read moreThe food in this establishment taste good. Consistent taste is always a plus. Unfortunately the service doesn’t match the food. Instead of ordering delivery today Ive decided to brave the cold weather and order take out. What a horrible experience. I order chunks of chicken. Nothing complicated and nothing that should last 25 minutes and counting. It’s a slow night and I still have yet to receive my order. A 2 litter soda come w my order. I am a diabetic and I don’t drink soda. They don’t even have diet soda as an option. I asked for the 2 litter soda to be replaced by 3/diet can soda and I was denied. Btw it’s now 30 minutes and counting. I’ve read reviews with complaints of bad service. Ignored them all because it taste well. Learned a valuable lesson ignoring previous reviews. Don’t make the same mistake I just made. Avoid this location. There are various locations close by that serve good tasting food with much better service. Pass up this place. In my frustration I wrote water bottle instead of can...
