I was wandering Soho looking for a place to eat and noticed this restaurant walking by. It was very empty when I walked in and I was seated at a small table by the bar. To start off, the restaurant itself is quaint and easy on the eyes. The music was more than perfect in regard to volume. It was truly like a movie set! There was an extensive menu of salads, soups, chickens, and pasta dishes. The setting was very traditional and as another used non-pretentious! I ordered the Stracciatella soup and a Filet of Sole (pictured). The bread was just OK and not warm. But the bread had to be the weakest link of the evening… the soup came out very warm and in a nicely generous sized bowl. The server must have noticed I wasn’t too overwhelmed with the dish and offered some cheese which made it one of the best soups I’ve had! I even thought about getting one to-go for my mother. The filet was present gorgeously and had been cooked with precision. Not too much sauce and just enough spice. The vegetables of carrots and broccoli weren’t noteworthy, although the potatoes were really addictive and spicy. After eating my dish whole, I ordered the Zabaglione for dessert. I was not too sure what to think on the cream of the dish, but the strawberries were freshly cut which I really did admire. The bathroom was very very clean and the staff were very friendly during the entire course. This business really is on no vanity… just there to give good service and food. Excellent job!

As the great people of Monte's prepare to celebrate their 100th anniversary, they continue to put out some of the best AUTHENTIC, Italian food in all of New York City. A few steps below MacDougal Street, just off of Bleecker Street, chances are you will be greeted by owner & Chef, Pietro Mosconi or his son Peter. The staff at Monte's will guide you through the menu, making suggestions along the way if needed. Very helpful & professional. My recommendation: Caesar salad to start, perhaps Mozzarella in Carozza if you're really hungry. Then the best Chicken Marsala I've ever had anywhere. I use to get it with a said of pasta with meat sauce, however, on my trip at the beginning of this month, Chef Pietro prepared the dish himself and made the pasta with the Marsala. he said you shouldn't mix the sauces. He did send a small bowl out with the meat sauce if I wanted. He was 100% correct. From now on, this is how I will order. I'll be back for their 100th anniversary, maybe sooner too. cento anni di salute e felicità

The only reason this is 2 stars instead of 1 is because the food was not bad. If you want to order from this place just bring it home for a better experience. Our poor excuse of a waiter was Dan. For an older guy who looked like a career waiter, he was one of the worst I've had. This was my first time at Monte's in 7 years. I was hoping for a better experience than the last time I was here when the smell of the bathroom eminating all over the dining room. For a place that had at least 7 waiters for about 20 tables, the service was horrible. We had a reservation for later in the night but decided to come earlier. There was a handoff of empty tables. We entered and stood at the door for at least 3 minutes while the staff walked by us 5 different times, completely ignoring us. Eventually, someone, not the hostess, sat us by the front door. Even though they had double doors and a hostess, both doors were left open every 30 seconds while someone entered. At least put a sign up that says keep the door closed.

Instead of giving our table bread, which every other table had, we ordered our food and began eating. When we requested bread, it didn't come out until we were almost done with our appetizers. When our main courses came out we had to ask for the parmesan cheese seeing every other server was applying it to the dishes as soon as it came out. Ours didn't come until we were half done eating, and the waiter just dropped it off at the table. When we were finished with the food I was happy wiping up the sauces with the remaining bread until the server decided that as I am still chewing and more bread still on the plate he should take the plates off the table. When we were done eating, the waiter never came to bring us the check. I felt like I was being held hostage because we can't leave without paying, and im not going to call for him or walk over to him in a crowded room. We had to ask someone else. Possibly...

🏆 🏆 🏆 This place is like no other…the most luscious freshly prepared Italian food that makes you smile when it’s brought to your table, to dine among others who are equally as happy makes for its jovial and refined atmosphere! Monte’s has class. A lot of class. But it’s also warm and welcoming. The service is top-notch and everyone is attended to, no need to flag anyone down. Dining here is such a pleasure.

If you’re in a group and want the kitchen to choose your feast, just ask. I highly recommend appetizers for the table including BAKED ARTICHOKES and EGGPLANT ROLATINI, ANTIPASTO FREDDO and TOASTED GARLIC BREAD their CHICKEN MARSALA has the most beautiful velvety lemony 🍋 texture, it’s a favorite! Many rave about their LAMB dishes and BROILED HERB SALMON and VEAL dishes…as always, Italian’s have a way with vegetables and their ASPARAGUS PARMIGIANA is a nice surprise.

The BEST part is of course is Monte’s eagerness to please and serve the most DELICIOUS Italian classics. THAT vibe comes from Chef Pietro, a very likable man whose high standards are evident in EVERY dish you see coming out of his kitchen. It’s like watching an Italian Culinary Parade!!!

Monte’s is something special, it feeds the body and satisfies the soul! It’s kind of hidden. As a former food writer I can say that most places are “phoning it in”, Monte’s earns its’ reputation daily, with impeccable service and the best quality ingredients, it’s as real as it gets here. Authentically Italian since 1918. THIS IS NEW YORK AT ITS CULINARY BEST. A+++ Feel good vibes all around!!! 🤍 💚 ❤️...
