Saturday dinner time in the East Village can be a trying time to find a place to eat. Our favorite Neapolitan pizza joint was right around the corner but we wanted to give Motorino's pizza for a spin. This smallish restaurant was packed and it was about 30-45 minute wait during the peak eating time for the hipsters of EV.
For a busy restaurant the servers did a great job of keeping an eye on everyone's table, keeping water flowing, and food was flying out of the kitchen. There is are few places that can displace my top 5 list of pizzeria. We ordered the Margarita and Stracciatella with the octopus salad to start. The warm appetizer was very good, the slightly spicy oil and potatoes with the crunch of the celery and the tender octopus was a good start but for $14 for the portion it was on the small side. The pizza arrived hot, dough was bubbly and slight chewy as what a Neapolitan pizza should be like but almost everything had garlic in the pizza. The ingredients were fresh, the cheese was great, the sauce was a bit bland lacking a certain acidity.
Was it an enjoyable pizza most definitely and certainly can't go wrong with Motorino's pizza. Does it stack to my top....it does not. While it was good it doesn't knock of any of my favorite Neapolitan haunts in the city. They still stand strong against the ever growing brick/wood/cool oven...
Read moreIt was downright the most unpleasant pizza experience I have ever had to endure. Me and my girlfriend went to this place after a day of shopping and I ordered a pie of pizza to split, I had half with sausages, and the other half was mushrooms and red peppers.. when I received this pie of pizza, my side of the mushrooms and red peppers was drenched and super soggy.. you don't understand when I mean soggy, it was wet like the ocean, and all my topping just fell off. I had to slide it onto my kids sized plate that they give customers. All my toppings fell off and onto the table ruining my OCD. This place doesn't even have parmigiana cheese. I was tempted to ask my waiter why I had a soup and not a pizza. At the end when I managed to eat my crust with a fork because the cheese portion of my pizza was just soggy and that wasn't a good feeling, eating soggy pizza.. beware don't eat here, many good food joints that are not surrounded by flies and the smell of garbage they leave right...
Read moreI haven't forgotten this gem in the East Side. Went there last year to try their awesome margherita pizzas and wonderful appetizers for dinner with two other colleagues. Ordered four pizzas because two pizzas weren't enough to satisfy our hunger. One of my colleagues was about to knock out due to the savory flavors of their prosciutto di parma pizza- a limited edition pizza that was one sale that day- and ordered for some mortadella plus bread appetizers to boot. Although it's reasonably priced for a weekend event, it's worth the investment with a party of three to four. The service was spectacular- only gripe was when one of our pizzas was delayed due to another table ordering the same order before us, but understandable since their pizzas did not disappoint at all. Highly recommended for those who love thin crust, four sliced pizzas with light refreshments and decent side orders. Recommended: check out the Brunch deals they have before 3pm- you...
