Nestled in the heart of Broadway and 55th street lies Mughlai Indian Cuisine, and true to its name, has opened my eyes to a flavorful and decadent experience. Though being nestled in the busy city streets has given Mughlai a slightly smaller area to work with, this is in fact a hidden strength to the restaurant's mission in curating an authentic Indian style and flair: As you enter the door you are greeted warmly by the staff and set upon what could only be described as a friendly setting, a far cry from the hustle and bustle of the Manhattan city life.
If you are so lucky, the owner will personally greet you and will delightedly explain to you any and all questions you may have in partaking of the rich flavors Mughlai has to offer. While I have only had the Chicken Mahkani, let it be known that the dish is likely the most popular dish besides the Chicken Tikka, however, Mughlai has perfected a sauce that lingers beautifully on the tongue, the flavor of the tomato gently accentuates the rice or naan you may order, never overpowering the natural texture or flavor of the two. It is my pleasure to say that Mughlai has exactly the food you want from an upscale bistro at the fraction of the cost, especially so if you indulge in the 50% off dine in lunch special (which, as any savvy new yorker knows, who would ever pass up such a deal?)
I'd like to especially thank both the owner and his wife for excitedly enlightening me to a new restaurant that blows the competition out the water, and with enough answers to render me a new fan all around! If you are ever in the neighborhood and would like to cater yourself to a scrumptious meal and leave feeling like a true royal, take yourself down to Mughlai Indian Cuisine and have a Masala Chai Tea if nothing more. You'll be glad you did, and in return, your wallet and your stomach will thank...
Read moreWent there for lunch. The place was pretty empty with some good Indian instrumental music but very dill lighting . The place needs a serious paint job. Coming to the food , we ordered mushroom matar , chana masala , daal tadka and breads The food was decent with perfect balance. The masalas did not overpower the dish But the quantity was so low for the bomb amount they charge. Barely 1 person can eat that gravy for some 17$. Surprise 1: To my shock when asked for extra onions they said they charge extra. Unbelievable!! This is the first ever restaurant who asked money for onions where I paid 17$ each for 3 main courses. This is the cheapest thing I have heard. They are onions. They cost you less than 50 cents. You are just killing your client base with this greed Surprise 2 : no matter how many main course u order , you will only be served 1 rice with it. Usually you get rice with every main course you order. But this can be understood but the onions were too much.
Food taste : 4/5 Quantity : 1/5 Service and hospitality : 1/ 5
I would usually rate them 2/5 +1 star for keeping saunf ( fennel seeds). Thats the one thing I look while leaving an Indian restaurant. Good job on that
Overall they need to improve the ambience a bit ( the dark rooms with instrumental music makes it feel like someone just died in there ) , increase the quantity proportionate to the charge and please stop asking money for onions .. You will lose more customers and business than the...
Read moreI think this is my first review in many years. And I’ve been through countless positive and negative experiences, but this has been something else. I came to order food to go on 04/21/2023 at around 6pm. The host greeted me, I ordered what I wanted (just tikka masala and that’s all). He kept asking me: “No beverage?” -no thank you, “Maybe Mamgo lassi?” - no, just tikka masala, “Any bread?” - that pressing treatment was absolutely unacceptable and unprofessional. Then he took my credit card from my hands (even though the card reader was right next to me) and stared at my card number, name etc. Literally stared, reading. Then he put my card with my name and card number side up on the card reader and left it like that for ridiculously long time. I’m not overreacting. What was he trying to memorize? At the end, when I asked if they were going to text me when my order was ready (he typed in my phone number at the beginning of order), he said it was gonna be around 15 min wait time and I should just wait outside, checking the order myself. Honestly, one of the worst experiences that I’ve ever had at the restaurants. I still tipped, cause I had worked as a server myself and I know how important is tipping. I just hope tip goes to better workers at that Mughlai restaurant. Food was good. But even if it was the only Indian restaurant in NYC, I’d still never come back and never recommend it to anybody for such experience. Thank you for...
