The employees are SO arrogant and smug. I was given sass and attitude because I was looking for something that fit me in their clearance rack... is the rack there just so you can look down on the customers that look there and decide that they're not worth helping? The one employee we asked for help (who didn't appear to be otherwise preoccupied) acted as if it was a chore and waste of time to be helping us, sighing and muttering under his breath the entire time. I ended up deciding to purchase a tie and stood in front of the counter for about twenty-five minutes as multiple employees just passed by and completely ignored us. Another customer who was being helped nearby noticed and even commented on how ridiculous it was that we were still waiting (and being ignored) for so long. We eventually gave up and left. My partner and I were polite (even as we were being disrespected) and gave them no reason to treat us with such contempt. They were actually the haughtiest people I've ever interacted with, and it left a taste in my mouth like a vomit-soaked rag. These are probably the same kind of people that are needlessly rude to servers at restaurants. Absolutely unprofessional and beyond disappointing.
Edit: went to Suitsupply a few days after this dismal experience based on a coworker's reccomendation and had a wonderful experience. They were timely, attentive, knowledgeable, and polite (everything Nordstrom failed to be). The suits were more reasonably priced without the huge markups, and I felt good about the suit I bought due to the employees' understanding of how fabric, color, and fit affects my appearance. Honestly, I was surprised because I didn't know I could look that good in a suit. Do yourself a favor and go there instead. You'll get a nicer suit and much better service for less...
Read moreI had an exceptionally positive and inclusive experience with Jazmin S at the Nordstrom Men's store on West 57th street. I was looking to purchase a present for my boyfriend. Specifically was looking for recommendations for a beard/mustache product - however I needed some guidance picking a product out. In the past I made the mistake of picking a product my brothers used and realized not all products are designed for all skin and hair types. I explained to Jazmin my prior mistake purchasing products and that my partner is half black and showed a picture to illustrate his facial hair type - so I was looking for a product designed for his skin and hair type. Jazmin could not have been more helpful and showed me two different facial hair grooming kits to choose from - and explained the price difference between purchasing the individual products vs. products as a kit. She was both knowledgeable and transparent. Also, she paid attention to details while not making me feel rushed at all. She noticed when I walked by the YSL colognes that I wanted to purchase a YSL cologne for my BF but he loved certain scents of the brand and strongly disliked other scents and I did not recall which one was which. So I commented in passing "I'll have to bring him back in person to get the cologne". While I was checking out Jazmin dropped some YSL cologne samples in the bag and my BF ended up really liking one scent- so now I know which cologne to purchase! Jazmin did me a great job with the facial kit recommendation, my bf LOVED the kit we chose and his bandmates were a bit envious- one said "my girlfriend doesn't buy me stuff like this after my performances!" You did...
Read moreThe new Nordstrom complex on both sides of Broadway at W 57th Street is very impressive. On the East side is 7 floors of mixed "stuff" (women's, jewelry, childrens & household goods) including 5 floors up and a nice cafe on lower level 2. On the West side is a 3 floor men's store. Both are so open and spacious that I felt like it was a suburban mall instead of a NYC facility. Even the upscale city stores often have a crowded, space-saving, cramped and stifling feel. This new Nordstrom is the total opposite. Of course everything is clean and well organized because it's all new, but it's more than that. It's the fundamental design and floor plans. I really like the place.
Another pleasant surprise was how easy it was to find help when I had a question and the great customer service attitude of their floor staff. They obviously had a good training program. Far too many other department stores, even the Nordstrom stores in NJ malls, seem understaffed with less well trained people.
The idea of having a separate men's store is a great concept. At the risk of upsetting PC people, I'll say that I think men and women often have different shopping habits and this facility makes "man shopping" more satisfying. It's easy to make a bee line purchase if you're in a hurry but it's also friendly for those who want to browse and do more relaxed shopping. Locals, especially Upper West Side residents and workers are sure to be happy with this great new store, but I believe out of town tourists will also add this as a high priority...
