My family and I have been coming to Nan Bei Ho for authentic Taiwanese breakfast every chance we could! It used to be in the heart of Flushing and closed for a few years. We couldn't find another place as good as they are. So we were happy when we found out that they opened again, though in a different location. Many of their breakfast items are delicious, we typically get the salty soybean milk, sweet soy milk, beef with sesame pancake and steamed vegetables dumplings, just to name a few. My favorite item on their breakfast menu is the steamed vegetable dumplings. It's made with vegetable, eggs and green bean noodles. The flavor is mild but enhanced with ginger vinegar. The wrap can get a bit doughy but it's very satisfying when popping one to the mouth. The salty soybean milk has pork floss, vinegar, scallions, pickled vegetable. The flavor is well balanced, adding some hot pepper oil can enhance the experience. I have not found another place that makes the vegetable dumplings or the salty soy bean milk as good as Nan Bei Ho. The restaurant also offers many staple Taiwanese dishes and available all day. It's definitely one of my pocket list of breakfast place to go. There is no parking lot, but street parking is typically...
Read moreGood breakfast stuff. All the items in the breakfast and appetizers section we tried were good except for XLB, where it was just ok but can't compare with the better places in the city. For breakfast items go there as early as possible when things are still fresh and hot. If you go later it won't be very good.
Update:
Came around 6pm one Saturday night for dinner and the restaurant was already filled! However most of the dishes we ordered were just ok to not so great. The fried pork chop in the pork chop rice was too salty. Same with the Taiwanese popcorn chicken. Also it seems they used breast meat for the popcorn chicken and I think dark meat would have been better. The three cup chicken (chunk chicken Taiwan style) was ok but seemed like it was missing something but I couldn't put my finger on it. Braised pork over rice was just alright. FYI, the pork chop rice also has the braised pork sauce on the rice albeit less. Stinky tofu was good as usual. It was the best of the night along with the sauteed...
Read moreOrdered the family takeout meal from them last night and found a cockroach in the soup 𤎠brought the receipt back and showed them photos but the owner refused to provide any sort of compensation. In their own words, âitâs not something we can control and at least itâs not in the dishes insteadâ. How is basic hygiene not something you can control? I understand if itâs an isolated incident, but the ownerâs attitude was very nonchalant and even condescending like itâs not something a diner should be upset about. Another staff came forward later on to offer me another dish to take away which I declined, only then did she provide a refund while the owner looked on unwillingly. This is not the first time weâve suffered the ownerâs attitude but this will be the last time weâre ordering from...
