Hands Down the Best Sushi Omakase in its Category (affordable sushi omakase in NYC) as of 04/14/2023. At $75 for 15 pieces of nigiri and an included starter per person. If you have never tried sushi omakase come here to try because I highly doubt you can beat that deal in NYC.
They have the standard fare of high end ingredients which you would expect at more expensive omakase price point. Including Bluefin Tuna both Akami and Otoro from Spain, Uni from Hokkaido Japan, A5 Miyazaki Wagyu Beef from Japan, Truffle Salts and Mayos, and last but not least the use of Kulaga Caviar on multiple dishes.
They have taken the more modern approach of aging all their fish prior to being served. You can actually see their dry aging refrigerator when you walk into the restaurant as its on the left on full display. Most if not all the fish used in the course was aged for some duration of time prior to being served. The most notable changes are in taste and texture which warrant this technique; in my opinion are the tuna as it helps to intensify the umami and break down any residual muscle tissue and tendons for a much softer bite.
Service is not outstanding but its very acceptable at this price point given the size of the restaurant. If you do plan on drinking sake their menu is very fairly priced, and a complete steal if you're use to dining in Manhattan. Only minor complaint that some may have is that if you plan on drinking, you'll have to serve yourself and your guest. Its not something that bothered me.
Keep in mind there is no dessert on the menu at the moment so if you have a sweet-tooth plan ahead to find a spot afterwards.
They also take note of who's having a birthday or anniversary and give you an extra hand roll with a candle, which is very extremely nice of them.
I will be back soon.
Neta Shari team, keep up...
Read moreHad one of my best birthday dinners ever at Neta Shari last night! After living in LA for 25 years I have been unimpressed with most Sushi in NYC. Either way overpriced or subpar quality. That’s to let you know that I came in with a bias.
The bare bones ambience and limited staff & seating at first did little to assuage my suspicions. But once Chef Leo presented us with his first creation … I was hooked! So many simple but elegant flavors and textures. Each piece delivered in a perfect amount of time between to allow a moment to savor what you just experienced before you were ready for the next. He even presented those celebrating birthdays with a candle lit tuna hand roll as a treat! Chef Leo and the rest of his team were so warm and welcoming while not being intrusive at all. By doing timed seatings and keeping the menu and staff small they can also keep their prices INCREDIBLY low compared to the vast majority of sushi restaurants (ESPECIALLY Omakase) in NYC. This trip out to south Brooklyn is more than worth it and we will ABSOLUTELY be back. Menu changes every two weeks! Thank you Chef Leo and everyone at Neta Shari for an...
Read moreChef Kevin was amazing and provided an unmatched Omakase experience. I trusted Kevin and he did not disappoint. We did not expect the 16 pieces of sushi to fill us up, but they definitely did. The chef was extremely generous with the fish and did not stuff too much rice.
The Hakkaido Uni and Medium Fatty Tuna were our favorite pieces, we even ordered al carte!
An upscale reservation based option is exactly what we need in this neighborhood. Take your dates here to impress them 10x! I took my wife here and she was delighted. Why go to Manhattan and pay more for the same experience when you can go to your local Neta Shari and support local businesses.
After every piece, we couldn't wait for the next piece. Make sure to eat your piece quick before your date steals it.
We also had the opportunity to meet the owners who were very happy to welcome us! Come for the curiosity and stay for the consistent...
