So many people have asked me about my favorite Hong Kong food spot in NYC… I don’t gatekeep anymore — this is hands down my #1 HK cafe for set meals (常餐)!
Hot take: the HK cafes in Bensonhurst are not only BETTER but also CHEAPER than the ones in other boroughs.
P.S. don’t be fooled by their low google rating. Most of the complaints are about the service. But anyone from HK will tell you, it’s probably not authentic HK if it’s too friendly. There’s even a note saying tips are appreciated but not required lol.
*3 Toppings with Noodle 三拼粉麵 $11.75 * I highly recommend trying the Shredded Pork with Preserved Vegetables (雪菜肉絲) and the Spiced Minced Pork (五香肉丁) because both are housemade! It’s impossible to find spiced minced pork in the US, so I was surprised to see it on the menu. Dare I say, it’s way better than the canned version!
*Satay Beef over Vermicelli Noodle 沙嗲牛肉米粉 $8.25 (Breakfast) * Fight me if you disagree: this is hands down the BEST satay beef I’ve had in NYC. I’ve been disappointed by so many others, but this one tastes exactly like the one I grew up eating. It is savory, peanut-y, and pairs perfectly with Nissin instant noodle or vermicelli noodle.
*Scallion Pork Cutlet with Egg over Rice 蔥油豬扒煎蛋飯 $12 * The scallion oil was aromatic. Pork cutlet, scallion, and sunny-side-up egg are an unbeatable trio.
complimentary hot drink or iced drink for $1
*Steamed Rice Roll with House Special Sauce 混醬腸粉 $4.50 My fam gets this every time, but to be honest, I wasn’t into it. The peanut-to-soy sauce ratio was off, and the rice roll texture was too mushy.
*Satay Beef Sandwich 沙嗲牛肉三文治 $6 Love their satay beef – even better when you add scrambled eggs!...

I came for the breakfast set, which at $8.25 is an absolute steal. I ordered the satay beef noodle soup, and it came with two perfectly fried eggs, a thick slice of toast, and a cup of silky, strong Hong Kong-style milk tea. It’s the kind of meal that makes you want to linger and at this price, you absolutely should.
We couldn’t resist diving into some à la carte dishes too. The stuffed trio fried green pepper, eggplant, and tofu was crisp on the outside and savory inside, generously packed with fish paste. The fried chicken wings were textbook Hong Kong-style: golden, thin-skinned, and incredibly juicy.
One standout was the curry tripe, fish balls, and pork skin combo, bursting with that signature street food flavor: fragrant curry, bouncy fish balls, and melt-in-your-mouth pork skin. We also ordered the imitation shark fin soup, served with a side of red vinegar for that authentic old-school touch.
The baked rice with chicken cutlet and cheese was another crowd-pleaser. Rich, gooey, and comforting, it’s the kind of dish that fills you up in the best way possible.
We ended the meal with a refreshing red bean ice milk, and for a moment, I felt like I was back in a corner cafe in Kowloon.
And finally, the French toast. Buttery, fried to perfection, and drizzled with condensed milk. A sweet, nostalgic finish to a meal that truly delivers the taste...
Read moreI miss Cha Chaan Teng (HK style cafe) in Hong Kong, so whenever I'm in a highly populated Chinese community/city, I searched for this type of food.
High Five is a fantastic place to grab a quick Hong Kong style breakfast for super cheap. The breakfast set is $6.75, including a hot drink until 11:30 am. EVERY DAY! We got Set B, which came with instant noodle soup with satay beef, scrambled eggs, and bread with butter. The satay beef is nicely seasoned, and instant noodles aren't cooked to perfect texture. Did I mention that the service is quick? We got our food within 5 minutes. If you're always in a rush or don't have much time in the morning, this is your place.
We also tried their HK street style fish shumai (my fav) and curry fish balls. These dishes reminded me of my childhood living in Hong Kong and taste amazing. To end the meal with something sweet, you got to try the French Toast (with peanut butter inside) drizzle with condensed milk. It's already cut up in bite-sized squares for easy consumption.
High Five is a hidden gem...
