Awful, just awful. In from out of town and checked in late at a nearby hotel after a 5hr flight. I was looking for somewhere to unwind and get some food before bed. Decided to try here. For starters the server was not attentive at all. At first my food came out incorrectly and salad missing. I tried a french fry and actually spat it out as it tasted old and was flat out cold, not a degree above room temp. My salad came but no cutlery. I had to find someone and ask them for cutlery so I could actually eat my food. Finally when this was done I began on the sandwich. Horrendous (and I don't use that word lightly). The bun was hardened and crusty (ie old), pickles missing, and that must've been the end of the sauce because there was so little on there you couldn't taste it. I waited for the server to return to explain my disappointment....and waited.....and waited. Giving up, tired and hungry, I literally scraped the chicken and tomato out of this mess, ate that, and left everything else on my plate bun and fries incl. Like an idiot lost out at sea, I'm peering around the restaurant corner to corner looking to flag down my waitress to clear my plate. When she finally came I took the time to explain everything that was wrong with my experience so far. She didn't really have much to say but worse off not even an apology for my dissatisfaction. She was quite standoffish. Feeling defeated I just asked for my bill so I could go. It comes, with everything on there, full price. At this point feeling completely uncared for I decided to speak up and I gently explained to her that I find it a bit surprising that after I politely but clearly explained how bad I thought the food was I was still expected to just accept it and pay full price too. Her response "well you never told me there was a problem with your food until now"! So the question begs, how on earth is a customer supposed to express any concerns for their meal if their waitress NEVER COMES TO THE TABLE after getting their food! To be clear she never came once, I had to flag her down to clear everything. But flabbergasted at her response I just laughed as I suddenly realized it was like dealing with a child so I just elected to pay my cheque and go to bed, hungry I might add, without any more unnecessary conversation. On the way back to my hotel I called the restaurant and spoke with a manager. I just felt compelled that someone who had perhaps a vested interest in their business would be interested in knowing just how awful I thought there place was. To his credit, he said all the right things and apologized and invited me back to make things right. Sometimes things happen or just go wrong and that's acceptable, but it's how it's handled that makes all the difference and in my case, I'm pretty sure I won't go back even though I am frequently put up in that neighborhood. This is New York City the choices...
Read moreO'Hara's Restaurant and Pub is hands down my favorite spot in New York City, and it's become my go-to place for almost every weekend outing. Located in the heart of the Financial District, this gem is more than just a restaurant or a pub – it's a place brimming with history, warmth, and some of the best drinks you'll ever have.
The moment you step inside, you're greeted by an incredibly friendly and attentive staff. They always make you feel like part of the family. The owner is often around, mingling with guests and making sure everyone is having a great time. His friendliness and genuine interest in his patrons are a huge part of what makes this place special.
Now, let's talk about the drinks. They offer a fantastic selection of beers, cocktails, and spirits that cater to every taste. The bartenders here really know their craft. Whether you're in the mood for a classic Guinness or something more adventurous, they’ve got you covered. I've tried many places in the city, but the drinks here are simply on another level – consistently top-notch and expertly made.
Beyond the drinks and the welcoming atmosphere, this place holds a significant spot in the community’s heart due to its deep connection with 9/11. The walls are adorned with badges and memorabilia from first responders, making it a poignant and respectful tribute to the heroes of that day. It’s impossible not to feel a sense of reverence and respect as you sit among these tokens of bravery and sacrifice.
One of the best kept secrets here is the "Album." If you ask the staff about it, they'll bring out a book filled with photos, letters, and memories from people who have visited over the years. It’s a touching collection that adds a personal and historical depth to your visit, reminding you of the community spirit that thrives in this place.
It is more than just a pub for me – it's a place where memories are made and shared. I've taken all my friends here, and every single one of them has fallen in love with it just like I did. The combination of great service, outstanding drinks, and rich history creates an experience that is hard to beat.
If you’re ever in New York City, do yourself a favor and stop by. Enjoy a drink, soak in the atmosphere, and be sure to ask about the "Album." You...
Read moreMy girlfriend and I came here and wanted to like it, but the service was the worst I’ve ever had. First, the A/C didn’t work and there were bugs everywhere. Second, the bartender paid no attention to me and took forever to even get me a menu, spending all his time trying to sell a customer on some gin. But this is where it got really bad.
My girlfriend asked if they could make a certain mixed drink and he looked at her like she wasn’t supposed to be there and then looked at her ID for a solid minute or two because I guess he thought it was fake (a customer blurted out that it was too. It was not). At this point I could tell he was drunk. He never asked for my order so I went ahead and told him what I wanted. He never told my girlfriend if they could make the drink and then started telling the people at the bar a story. We had a dinner reservation somewhere else and tried to get his attention multiple times. Finally, when we asked him about the drink again he was completely confused. He acted like we never even asked and then the two customers next to us (both also drunk) said we never asked for it. The bartender told me, “Both the people around you are saying you didn’t order it. I’m a bartender. I’d have known if you ordered it”. I slid my beer back and said I wasn’t going to be drinking it and he said, “Fine, I don’t need your money” and proceeded to watch me the whole time I was getting my things to leave. I told him he didn’t have to stare at me because I wasn’t being kicked out, I was leaving.
I’m a fair and honest guy so I won’t lie on a review. This was legitimately the WORST experience I’ve had at a business. The bartender was an Irish guy with a mole just above his lip. I don’t know his name but he was absolutely disrespectful and treated us like he couldn’t stand us from the moment we tried to interact with him. I recommend that you go literally ANYWHERE but here. Even if you have better service than I did, the place was extremely hot and had bugs everywhere and the bar was sticky, so I can’t imagine they clean this place well.
SAVE YOUR MONEY. According to that terrible bartender, they’re doing so well that they don’t need it...
