I was very excited to see a Hong Kong style & authentic Chinese restaurant opened up in my area. Finding good & authentic Chinese food spots is a bit of a challenge here.
I’ve done take-out here 2x and ate there for dinner recently. I’ve eaten here before it was Okay Noodle so I knew the restaurant wasn’t too big to begin with. Last time I went my friend and I shared a steamed rice roll and a Chinese sausage clay pot rice.
The steamed rice roll was good, perfectly made. The clay pot rice could have been better. I felt like there wasn’t enough toppings or the ratio of rice to meat was limited.
The service was mediocre. I felt like we were rushed by one of the waiters after we were done eating when the restaurant wasn’t even crowded.
I think I prefer ordering take-out instead since I live close. Food was okay so far. I did wish they had dim sum dishes and congee too,...
Read moreIf you’ve been wondering where E Noodle in Flushing has gone, it’s here. The same owner of E Noodle opened Okay Noodle! (I asked the staff and the manager and cashier confirmed). Same good tastes and menu (and phone number), just in Elmhurst. Wonton noodle soup came with 4 dumplings, the soup tasted like a sweet dashi broth? Their noodles were crisp! We appreciated that the soup and noodles/wontons were separated since we got it to go. The beef chow fun was flavorful. It had a heavy oyster sauce taste that we liked. The chicken fried rice was pretty standard. The kids like it so we ordered it (note to parents: it does have onions in it but we pick it up for the kids and they happily eat it). Looking forward to coming by for their clay pot rice when we...
Read moreThe star of the show is the Hot Clay Pot Rice. I saw one on every table the first time I came in. Made to order so you’ll wait about 20 min. They’re great. Rice is baked in a clay pot with your choice of pork spare ribs, Chinese sausage, salty fish or chicken (or all of the above). It comes out piping hot, perfect for autumn/winter. You get the crispy layer of rice along the outside. Then it’s dressed with a sweet soy sauce, mixed up with the chopped scallions, oils from the meat, and whichever protein you chose. I also had the soup wontons which were tasty and fresh, not frozen. The ‘Gong Sik’ (Hong Kong style) trend is having a moment in NY right now. This restaurant is an authentic member...
