The food kept them at satisfactory, but then the end wrecked the whole thing. I’ve been going to Georgia Diner for the past 30+ years. Both the current location and old. I have never had an out of pocket experience until this past night.
When I went up to pay at the register, the tap feature on their machine was not working. Thinking there was an issue with my phone, i opted to use my physical card. The pay to tap on their machine still wasnt working. The host then suggested that i handed my card to him. He then attempted to use the tap feature to pay but it didnt work.
Here’s where the disturbing/ enraging part began. When i handed him the card i told him to just use the chip feature. The host then started tapping the card against the machine, front back sideways. Holding up both sides of my card for an uncomfortable amount of time. I got so nervous about my info getting stolen I actually looked up at the ceiling expecting a camera. This was done in spite of my request to just insert the card into the machine.
After this the host then inserted the card into the machine and all was well. The host asked me if i wanted to add a tip to the credit card payment and i informed him that i was paying the tip cash. The woman beside the host mutters something. She then takes over. The payment was approved and the woman immediately rips out the first print out ( restaurant ) and hides it. She then hands me the second print out (customer copy). Confused by this , i ask her for the other receipt. I’m then given a copy of the itemized bill and not the restaurant copy of the credit card receipt. I then tell her “No, the other receipt.” She then appeared upset and handed me the restaurant receipt.
The restaurant receipt required: a customer signature. I then sign the receipt, wrote out the total, and crossed out even the word TIP on the receipt. Because, clearly something was going on here. The women then muttered something again anger to the other host.
Frustrated by this, i handed the receipt amd walked over to the table i was seated at and did what i did what i said i was going to do. TIP CASH. I made sure the waiter saw, and placed the tip on the table and walked away in disgust. As i was walking out the male host ran to the table to take the cash tip.
What restaurant hides their copy that required a signature?! Ask yourself that. Its proof that the credit charge is legit. Why was it such a big TO DO to just process the payment. Why have the side of the signature line exposed for an extended amount of time???! And then, hide the restaurant receipt?! A copy that requires a signature? Why did staff get upset when i requested the original credit card receipt that requires a signature?????
This was a disturbing experience. Im more than disappointed. Im disgusted. Go somewhere else. There are plenty of places that will have better food, prices, and service.
PS- this the first time i have ever felt the urge, no, the NEED to keep a copy of the customer receipt from a restaurant for my records.
Post PS- their menus have a cash price and a card price. This is akin to charging a surcharge for credit card use, which is AGAINST visa and master...
Read moreMy family and I have been a regular customer of Georgia Diner since the moment they opened in Queens Blvd corner of 55th Avenue. We loved their varied menu, the food quality and the friendly atmosphere. However, since they moved from Their original location and opened on another location things has not been the same and not for the better. I used to love their Bloody Mary from the bar and their chunky chicken potato salad platter from the menu. Sometime ago I went and ordered the Bloody Mary and it was awful, they attempted to fix it and only made it worse, obviously they changed the bar tender and he’s not a good cocktail maker, I tried in other occasion with the same results so I stop ordering drinks from the bar other than wine or beer. My daughter went there one day and ordered. The chunky potato salad, but the potato salad was sour and she had to send it back and order something else. But today was even worse. We both ordered the chunky potato salad but first told the waiter about our past experience and asked him if we could trust that it would be fresh, he went to the kitchen and cane back assuring it was fresh. Well, when the two plates came the chicken tasted old and was obviously spoiled and we asked to bring the Manager. His name was George and asked what was the matter; when we told him about the spoiled chicken and about this being the second time in the row the salad was not fresh and had a spoiled ingredient, his reaction was to ask “if we didn’t LIKE it” I tried to explain again but far from apologizing he cut me short, signaled the waiter to take the plates away and left, not an acceptable behavior. We order something else and paid full price for it, not an apology or compensation for the bad experience. It Looked to me as he’s just going to continue serving this plate throughout the day without a card that someone can get food poisoning out of this.
It’s sad and unfortunate that something like this could happen at a restaurant that was always proud of their food and service quality. I can contact the health department but I rather address the situation directly with them and have them investigate and correct this situation before they loose their reputation and...
Read moreFirst time I visited Georgia Diner (dinner time), I really liked everything about this place. Food was great with generous portions and we received just the right amount of attention from the waiters, so overall it was a great experience. My second visit (brunch) was a complete mess; if this was my first visit, I probably would NEVER come back. Service was terrible, I asked for condiments three times and never got it, so gave up asking a forth time. Had nothing to drink and waiter disappeared long periods at a time and he basically never checked on us (even when the diner didn't appear to be busy). Second time around, food was mediocre, but towards the bad side. The soup was over salted (unlike the first time trying it); salad was far from being fresh- everything was soggy and turning brown; chicken souvlaki was unbelievably dry and bland. I think the only food I enjoyed was the side of french fries w/ ketchup. Lastly, I wasn't aware you pay your bill at the front counter, everything was done at the table on my first visit, so I was surprised the second time around when our server never came back to the collect payment. After sitting there for a while and our waiter was nowhere in sight, we brought it to the front counter. I asked someone standing by the front if we could pay at the counter because we didn't see the server, he remarked with a belittling and sarcastic tone instructing me you always pay at the counter and it has been the same procedure since the very beginning. He's probably been asked a million times since no one ever tells new visitors. Servers should really tell patrons to pay at the front, so there's no confusion. The guy actually looked like he could be a supervisor/owner/manager, so he should really show customers a little respect and not release his frustration on everyone he speaks to. I also asked him another question, but he just made up an answer that didn't make sense. If not for my first visit, I would actually give this place 1 out of 5 stars for the horrible experience. I'm really debating if I should give this place another try, if I do, I would go during dinner time and hope...
