It was aite.
The space seems large if you're lucky enough to not have to sit at the bar, or one of those odd-end tiny tables (which realistically for a pizza and drinks/sides.. Just doesn't work very well. The upside to this is that you may be so squished in that you never get a piece of food on your lap). There doesn't seem to be a lot of seating options for individuals or couples, many big tables meant for 5-8+ people.
The atmosphere is loud! I went with a friend on a weekday afternoon and the place was packed! Must be a bit good sign, he reasoned, though I had my reservations at the door. So we went in, despite not being able to really talk amongst ourselves since the reverberation of everyone else's chatter seems to work against the shape of the room (great though should there intend to be live music). It was almost loud enough to warrant me wanting to leave, but we stayed- most people here tend to come in hordes with their friends, and it's loud group-talk versus loud individual talk - the way two or three people talk amongst themselves en mass is much less amplified than spread out groups.
The prices were a bit up there, though of course anyone living in NYC who's probably gotten a $1 slice, what isn't expensive? ($1 Pizza is the only thing that stayed affordable here- how did it survive the times? We need an author on this phenomena!) We ordered a side of mixed greens which seemed to be collared greens and a handful of beans. It was something like $9, I could have definitely eaten 5 and not have yet felt full.
We then ordered a glass of wine- it was in the double digits below $20 ($12-15 I believe?), which isn't surprising for wine, until we saw it arrived in this itty bitty glass! The wine was nice but the price:liquid amount ratio was quite the 'oh' moment for us. We got the pattern of 'big price tiny serving size' down and prepared for our pizza.
The size of it wasn't terrible, but it was shorter than your average slice - thing of a typical NYC slice, and cut about 2 1/2 inches off from the crust side. That's about the size we were dealing with- something that we didn't feel quite justified the price, especially because it wasn't particularly mind-blowing.
Conclusion: my taste buds and atmosphere affinity are different than yours, so take it as you will. This time was a bust for me, but I'd try it again - so long as I wasn't...
Read moreI came here on a date, my partner said that they had gluten free pizza here and that they liked their regular pies. I was excited to try another pizza place with a gluten free option!
Alas, it was one of the worst GF pizza's I've ever had. And definitely the worst I've ever had in a restaurant. It was brown (they must use buckwheat in the flour blend or something) and was soggy. The crust had almost no chew. The flavor wasn't terrible but wasn't great. The flavor wasn't as bad as the texture but it was all around a bad experience.
Thankfully when I told them that I didn't like it they took it away and didn't charge me for it when I said I'd get a salad. The one redeeming thing I had here was their butter beans, those were yummy and well flavored. But I don't want to eat a meal of just beans.
Apparently the dough is not something that Ops makes there, but they get it from a company called Knead Love. I've never had their stuff before but I think they Knead to go back to the drawing board with this recipe.
If you are Gluten-free, don't come here. The vibe is nice and it seems to be popular, so maybe if you can eat gluten, its...
Read moreNot having a wine list isn’t cool, it’s just a major bummer. You are forced to try to pick a wine by having a discussion with a server who (although sweet) doesn’t know anything about wine. The wine they have available is good... I saw lots of cool bottles displayed I would have loved to enjoy, but sadly there is really no option to get a chance to drink any of them because there is no list to order from, so you just drink some random bottle, you are not even sure what it is, but you felt obligated to say yes to this bottle that they brought over to you even though you don’t really like it... Because they are terribly busy.... And you are clearly putting this server out by being picky. The pizza might have saved the place, but after waiting 40 min for a pizza (sitting down at a table after ordering waiting, not waiting for a table) we had to leave to get to a show, so sadly we never got to try it. I’m just thankful I don’t live in Bushwick so I never have to go back to this pretentious and...
