Me and mom came here one night after coming from a 2 1/2 hr art exhibit so we were both really hungry. My mom wanted Chinese food but we couldn't find one in the area so I spotted Orion diner on the corner of 23rd and 2nd Avenue. My mom initially protested because it was empty, she figured the emptiness meant the food wasn't good. But I insisted we try it out, I told her that it was probably empty due to it being a Friday night. She finally gave in.
As we walked up to the diner I noticed they had outdoor seating, my mom noticed the rat that ran behind one of the planters situated by the outdoors seatings table. I saw it as well but being New Yorkers we know this isn't uncommon, so we proceeded into the diner.
Once inside we received a friendly greeting and was seated immediately (of course because it was empty as previous stated). We both decided to get a turkey burger deluxe. The food took a decent amount of time to come not too quickly and didn't take too long. We probably waited about 20 minutes. I prepared my burger first and proceeded to take a bite. Immediately after biting into the burger I noticed it tasted spoiled. I told my mother to take a bite but don't swallow it as I had accidentally done, and she immediately said, " it's spoiled"! We called over the waiter and brought it to his attention. We did eat the fries because we were very hungry.
The waiter was kind enough to waive our bill without dispute and a very friendly charming man who I assumed was the owner, acknowledged our concern that the meat was spoiled. He apologized profusely and offered us another meal for free, but I declined. Maybe the meat being spoiled was an isolated incident bur i didn't want to take that chance. The fact that everyone in there was so nice counteracts the issue with the meat, however I still will not go...
Read moreI've ordered from this diner about 4 times. And first three times I was completely satisfied. I ordered a couple of burgers through street easy. Delivery time was acceptable. The reason I was satisfied with my order, was because I got exactly what I was expecting. I got exactly what the menu said was going to be on the burger, nothing more nothing less. Now, the last order I placed, I decided to do something different. Which clearly was not a good decision on my part. I ordered a chicken and cheese quesadilla. The menu under included for this quesadilla just says " rosemary chicken and cheese between two flour tortillas ". What I got ....... was two almost burnt tortillas and in between them, chicken, barely any cheese and grilled onions. Now I could have dealt with the tortillas, but the fact that they added onions and that was listed ABSOLUTELY NO WHERE on the menu for this quesadilla is not cool whatsoever. I hate onions, had they advised they add onions to this quesadilla, I would have gotten a burger. Also the onions were pressed into the quesadilla. So I couldn't even pick the onions out without literally destroying my meal. And I'm an adult, I'm not going to pick at my food when I received something I should not have. So I'm giving them two stars because the burgers totally worth it, but now I...
Read moreI'm a native New Yorker, suffice it to say, we love a good diner. In fact if you've lived in NY, for any length of time, you know the local dinner in your neighborhood. If you're on 23rd and second avenue then you need to go to The Orion Diner & Grill and grab a bite to eat. I take my Mom after dental appointments at NYU dental School, and we enjoy any number of good dishes on the menu. I love, love, love this dinner. When you enter, you're greeted pleasantly and asked where you'd like to sit. The menu is a nice big "dinner menu" with tons of tasty choices. Now I love their burger choices, but they have lots of food to choose from. One of my favorites is this Texas burger with mushrooms, bacon, and pepperjack with a side order of steak cut fries. This dinner can accommodate my little 80-something Mom or a big boy like me. The food comes quickly, you know us New Yorkers, and then we settle down into the atmosphere and enjoy a meal slowly, every bite. Now it's a dinner on 23rd Street, so more than your seven dollar Mac combo, but that's what you pay for...the service, the food and the NY experience. So eat and be merry at one of my favorite...
