Would like to start off by saying that the front desk staff was super accommodating and friendly! The best part of my experience.
The first weird vibe I had was when you enter this hotel onto maps and it takes you to an entirely different address 10 blocks away. This is a small thing but as someone whoâs worked for a small business owner I know this is a very easy fix and it seems strange to me that they wouldnât change that.
I believe the photos posted by the hotel online are extremely misleading. The entire building felt run down and definitely lacking in cleanliness. The first room I was put in smelled so badly of B.O that I had to ask for a new room. Again, he was very accommodating and immediately gave me a new room - not his fault at all. The new room did not have the smell.
I had the queen sized bedroom. It feels weirdly small in thereâŚif I opened my full size suitcase to put on the rack, you would have to go up against the wall to get around it. I know itâs NYC but the price I paid for the room + the photos online definitely made it seem much roomier. The bathroom was clean and roomie on a more positive note. I usually take photos of my hotel rooms but it was so disappointing that I didnât think to do so.
Thereâs a sign in the room that says join us on the rooftop for a reception from 5-6. But when you ask about it downstairs they say the rooftop is closed right now. I feel like simply removing those signs from the rooms would solve a lot of problems. Not to mention, photos of this rooftop are heavily featured online as well.
Breakfast is extremely basic. Kinda what I was expecting though again, I felt the photos online were misleading.
Ultimately the prices here were very similar to the chains near grand central or Times Square, but I chose this place because I wanted a more boutique experience and better location. I would NOT recommend this place if that is what youâre looking for. The chains are a better bet. If they lowered their prices or redid the place to look more like the photos, it would definitely...
Read moreI had a very nice 1-night stay at The Lex Boutique Hotel for business. The Lex is not a luxury hotel, nor is it a budget hotel. It is definitely a mid-range hotel. I'd be happy to stay here again for work, events, or tourism. This hotel is in a great neighborhood too.||Check in was quick and easy. The entire hotel is non-smoking. I stayed in the lovely little room #702 â a penthouse room! My room was modern-looking, cool (perfect for a summer night in the city), comfortable, and quiet. The view from my room was of the historic Lexington Avenue Armory (built in 1906 and on the National Register of Historic Places). The view from the rooftop patio was even better! You can see the beautiful NYC skyline in three directions. I stayed on the night before 9/11 and the city had the memorial lights on full display. There was NO mold, bugs, or garbage from previous guests. Two water bottles are provided each day you stay. The bed was comfy and had lots of pillows. The thermostat was in the room and it controlled the temperature appropriately. The blackout shade totally blocked any outdoor light for nice, dark sleeping conditions. I liked the various electronics charging and lighting options in the room. The WiFi was free and worked just fine for routine use. This room had a desk with an office chair, but no other seating. There was a large flatscreen television, but I never turned it on. The toiletries smelled very nice! I am a very light sleeper. I had my white noise machine with me for sleep time and did not hear any hall or neighboring room sounds while sleeping. I could hear emergency vehicle sirens from time to time, but I do not think that can be helped in NYC and the noise was barely audible. The hotel staff were very friendly and welcoming. This room did not have a fridge or coffee pot, but your stay comes with a complimentary continental breakfast in the lobby. There was an assortment of delicious pastries, cereals, fruit, coffee, and orange juice. Well done Lex Boutique Hotel! I look forward to staying...
Read moreGreat location, ok value, amazing staff and free breakfast, but ruined by a loud AC heating system đ
They provide free small breakfast every morning at the lobby đđ And the location is great and very central. 7 floors, no issues with elevator. Also the staff is very helpful and kind đżđ
However, as I stayed for 6 nights, I started regretting this choice and booking for so long duration, after the first night. Its January, and freezing temperatures outside. The only source of heating in the rooms is an outdated AC system, which can only be set to a specific temperature. These units were so loud, you can't even hear tv or your own thoughts in the room. I tried sleeping without it being on, but the temperature dropped during the night to 12 degrees Celsius, which was unbearable. Also even though the AC unit was turned off, it kept starting itself back on for a minute, every now and then during the night, which kept waking me up.
After the first night, I had no choise than to keep the AC on during the night, but as it was so loud, I had to use earplugs, and still had hard time falling asleep and could hear it very loud through. I even checked with the manager if this was normal, and they said every room has the same AC and they checked that it was functioning 'just fine'.
Sad that the fan or speed functions are not working in the AC's as the only working setting was high. Due to the AC noise, I can't recommend this hotel unfortunately, and wouldn't be returning at least during winter time when hesting and running the AC is required to stay alive in the room. The whole sleeping experience was terrible, as it felt there would have been a loud washing machine running in the room 24/7.
Shame, as the service was otherwise ok. Room was small, and slightly ran down and bland in decor, but completely fine for me as I used it just for sleeping, and was touring the city...
