Black Star Bakery & Cafe — Restaurant in New York

If you’re looking for a spot that genuinely cares, go to Black Star Bakery & Cafe. The vibes are cozy without being overdone, the baked goods are legit delicious (the smell alone is worth the walk), and the service is what seals the deal.

Huge shoutout to Hue — helped me more than once to pick something perfect. Very attentive, super friendly, and seemed to know the menu inside-out. Hue didn’t rush me, was patient when I asked 20 questions, and made sure every little detail was right.

Things I loved: • Wide variety of pastries + solid coffee. • Clean, chill atmosphere — good for catching up with friends or working solo. • Staff (especially Hue) made me feel welcome.

If I had to nitpick: the line can get long during peak times, so maybe plan for a cushion. But honestly, totally worth the wait.

Second time here back-to-back, day 1 pistachio muffin, amazing, moist, flavorful and even pistachio’s in it. I took my order to go, my coffee was nice and hot….perfect! Came back the next day, blueberry scone, maybe 4 blueberries, and both of my coffees were luke warm. I’ll try for the 3rd time and see how it’s like, the 2 different days were so drastic. Now my 5th time back, 3/30/25 staff is still amazing, they sell out of the pistachio muffin by 9am but make more. Stumbled into this little gem of a coffee shop the other day, and let me just tell you this place is AMAZING. I've been to Black Star Bakery once in Williamsburg, and it was meh. Forgettable. The gramercy location is fabulous. I sat for a bit here and worked, and was just awe-struck by the kindness and energy of the barista serving customers. He knew almost everyone by name, was asking them about families, etc. You could tell he's made connections with these ppl and actually REMEMBERS the details of past conversations. Not to mention the coffee and yogurt bowl was delicious. This will absolutely be my new coffee spot in Manhattan....
