The Palace restaurant was like my very own diner just like OCD Melvin Udall's favorite hang out in the famous movie 'As Good As It Gets'. I am over the top and OCD when it comes to cleanliness and a delicious cup of coffee. The food is homemade; the breakfast potatoes are delicious without any grease or flavor of oil. The eggs are farm fresh eggs and over medium means over medium - Yes ma 'am it sure does! The bacon is very good quality, thin and crispy with flavor. Let's move on to the pancakes.... I ate at the highly rated (even by Martha Stewart) 'Clinton Street Baking company and restaurant' and they couldn't touch the Palace's pancakes (order real maple syrup separately.) The blueberry with a light dusting of powdered sugar, plain old fashioned and Banana... oh but this must be heaven - they were outstanding! Delicious homemade pancakes not to thin or thick, with an amazing homemade batter piping hot with an aroma so sweet, these pancakes are among the best I've ever had. Cleanliness, fresh delicious coffee, wonderful customer service, quality fresh food with a chef who knows how to prepare it, a local favorite and an exceptional breakfast, who could ask for anything more.... do I hear the theme song to the movie 'Moonlight' playing...
Read moreCame here precisely because they have a gluten free menu...
Asked for the gluten free menu and tried to order a BLT with gluten free bread. The waiter who did not speak any English clearly did not understand so I asked again in Spanish as I speak both... he still didn't understand the concept of gluten and kept asking me if I wanted "gluten bread" or "regular bread". After some IQ lowering explanation I saw he wrote "gluten f" on the ticket.
I thought ok no worries the kitchen will understand... Nope.
The waiter came back with a sandwich on standard white bread. After I told him in 2 languages that this bread has gluten he turns to his colleague and asks if "pan blanco tiene gluten" (if white bread has gluten)... The other waiter says yes.
Then the rude manager who clearly shops at baby GAP, let's call him pechitos, tries to make it seem like it's my fault the order was wrong. Saying ok you are a "gluten free person" not that I "need gluten bread", as if anyone would say that ever.
In the end it was 20 bucks for 3 pieces of bacon lettuce and tomato. Nothing great at all.
If you have allergies, go somewhere else or prepare to face pechitos and possibly still...
Read moreService isnt what you expect and food isnt as advertised, however the food is the main issue. Not only is it quite bland but it is also nauseating.
Eggs Benedict was bad, sauce was grainy, bread was undercooked and doughy. The hollandaise was weirdly yellow. A sharp yellow. When it should be an off-white cream colour.
Omelet was undersalted, as were the potatoes, and omelet with lox is not as advertised. The "lox" was cooked which... is just salmon, not lox. The salmon was overcooked and might as well have been pulled out of a can.
Overall everything had no spices whatsoever, not even salt and pepper. The potatoes were just boiled potatoes that were mushed a little and then burnt on two sides. I wish it was mash or home fries, but no it was a secret third (bad) thing.
Waiters were just dismissive, ignored you and didnt talk to you at all. Perhaps it was a particularly busy day but the quality of the food was supbar enough that it would warrant never coming back. The experience felt rushed: rushed to sit, rushed to order, to eat and to pay and leave. The quality of the food also...
