I’ve been trying Picante Mexican Restaurant a couple of times and tonight I decided to pick up the burger that I think deserves to be known in all New York, it’s one of my favorite and truly one of the best in the City (and I’ve tried tons of burgers in NYC!). The sweet potato bun is soft and the texture totally adds flavor to this burger, I went for the “Picante Burger” with fresh lettuce, cheese, avocado, freshly sliced onions, tomatoes, fresh jalapeños for the spicy side and a delicious sauce. The meat was cooked to perfection (I asked for medium rare) and it was juicy and tasty. Everything in this burger is so well balanced and full of flavor! Kudos to the chef! I say it again, it’s probably one of the best burgers in New York! Made fresh with passion and you can taste it! The staff is so kind and accommodating that I almost wouldn’t want to leave, the girls are smiling and are so nice to talk with. The overall atmosphere is friendly and informal and brought me back to the warm welcome I had in Mexico when I visited it years ago. It’s a great place with a super good staff and outstanding food! I live in the area and I promise I’ll be there more often…and you should too!

Pretty good- they have a very generous happy hour from 12-8pm which makes it a great spot to grab drinks with friends, including options like margaritas, mezcalitos, mojitos, etc. You can add a flavor for $1. I came here for dinner after a show with some friends, and everyone really loved their meals! I wasn't in the mood for something heavy so I got the ceviche, which was okay- looked pretty but it was a little heavy on the tomato sauce in my opinion, also the only seafood in it was whole shrimp from what I could tell.. Was expecting a little more from it but it's just not their specialty I guess and that's okay. I would try something else next time. My friend got the skirt steak and I had a few bites and it was delicious!! Cooked to perfection. Another friend had the birria tacos and said they were divine. Overall, we all left happy and satisfied!!

Decided to try this place out; mostly because Frijolitos next door was closed. I had the order of Birria(Slow cooked beef stew) Tacos as well as a chorizo taco. The food overall was ok, the Birria Tacos only come in an order of 3; tortillas weren’t crispy so that was a let down. The soup that comes with the Birria Tacos, usually for dipping the tacos, was really good. The chorizo taco was good. Also got a michelada which was a solid 6/10; they used Valentina instead of Tabasco which in my eyes is a no-go because the Valentina clumps up rather than mixing with the drink. If I could I would give this place a 3.8/5.

I won’t be going back. CHECK YOUR RECEIPT BEFORE YOU PAY! Food was fine, drinks were relatively good, but feels like this place is trying to steal your money. I went during Happy Hour, but they don’t post what that is on the HAPPY HOUR menu. We had to ask what it Included which is most drinks, but the waitress would not tell us the actual prices of everything. Margarita were $8, $9 if you added a flavor which I was ok with. Not bad for NYC, but didn’t find that out until I got my receipt printed after I paid. When it came time to pay, it seemed like my bill was high, but there was no check to reference back to, just the credit card reader in that waitress’s hand that had the total amount. When I inserted my credit card it asked me to tip 18-22%. When I asked for my printed receipt. I got it back right as we were leaving and noticed why the bill was so high. They included a 20% tip on my bill, and then asked for an ADDITIONAL 18-22% on top of that! It was a party of 3 of us, which tip is not usually included on a small group like that. No one mentioned anything, they purposefully quickly showed me the total without and itemized check… so I ended up tipping 40% on mediocre service and food. If you go, be cautious and ask them to show you the check...
