I'll start off by saying that the food here is good. And this restaurant is also one of the MANY Latin restaurants that are on seemingly every other block in Washington Heights. So, if you don't end up eating here, I'm sure you'll be able to find another spot somewhere close and have food very comparable to what you'd find here.
Started off with the roasted chicken and rice & beans. All serviceable. The chicken pieces were a bit small for my liking, but still pretty good. It's hard for any Latin restaurant to mess up rice, and thankfully this holds true for this spot. The difference is in how they make the beans. And the beans here are pretty solid. Their salad was plentiful but basic (corn, avocado, lettuce, tomatoes, beets). Their sweet plantains were good... but again, who in this neighborhood is gonna mess that up?
The service on the other hand... well, that was lacking. At first, our waitress kept asking us what we wanted as if she was in a hurry to use the bathroom. We had told her we needed more time to check out the menu (my dinner companion needed extra time to figure out what possible other items she wanted). Once we ordered our food, our waitress disappeared. Nowhere to be found... ever again. Now, I'm not saying she needed to pull up a chair and wait for us to ask her for more water or another item off the menu, but it wasn't even busy. Like, can you come back for a second, please? We kinda need something... or am I going to have to get up and get you myself? (I got up and got...
Read moreThis place charged twice for my niece and her husband's dinner while visiting NYC before returning to Europe. They first used their Mastercard debit card to pay for the bill, but the waitress returned and told them that she could not process the transaction (though the same debit card had been used during their trip to the US); so they handed over their credit card which went through and left a nice tip. When they returned to Europe, both their debit card and credit card had gone through, which means the debit card had processed contrary to what the waitress said, and they were thus charged twice for their meal. Given the time zones, language and long-distance phone calls, they asked me if I could help since I live in the US and can call for free. I sent an e-mail to their contact address with copies of both transactions and explanation of the case. I got no reply. So a few days later, I sent another e-mail, still with no reply. This morning, I called to asked to speak to an office manager and was told he was not there and call later. I called back this afternoon and was told that I could only discuss my situation in Spanish and the person hanged up. Considering other avenues, including the small business bureau but not sure I will get anywhere. Dishonest business if you ask me. ...
Read moreLet me start by saying do not order the boneless chicken.. I've ordered boneless chicken from other restaurants before that were prepped with 100% chicken breast.. we had to send the boneless chicken back for a second time because it was chewy and it smelled like they used recycled oil to prepare it.. Aside from it looking pink and undercooked inside...smdfh...The rice and beans was ok... When the waitress returned with the second order of newly cooked boneless chicken, it looked and tasted the same as the first order..We have had enough and just paid for what we were able to eat and left..That chicken seemed to have been made from other chicken parts as well like legs and thigh meat...Was not tasty at all and nobody in my group liked it ( adults and kids) .. I Don't recommend the boneless chicken..To be honest, I wont ever eat there again..Their Dominican style cuisine was subpar.. I've had better from other local spots.. They dont even have a restaurant by grade yet (pending)..My honest opinion...Go to Campesino Dominicano in the Bronx instead or Casa Del Mofongo in the Heights...smdfh at this...
