After a rough day of travel, we were in desperate need of some authentic NYC pizza so we decided to walk here. S&S is a rather small place but it was some of the best pizza I've ever had. We decided to order a half pepperoni half cheese pizza. S&S has very limited seating but we decided to eat there anyway (this was before discovering they have free delivery). I'm glad we decided to eat there because we got to watch the pizza be made and chat with the owner who was super friendly. He has owned this same spot for 40 years and is from Sicily. He knows his way around a pizza though. This was the best god damned pizza I've ever had. Cooked perfectly with the ideal ratio of sauce to cheese. The crust was amazing. The actually restaurant is a bit dingy and is in need of an upgrade but don't let the looks fool you. We ended up paying I think $18 for the entire pizza and it was worth every penny. Sure you can get dollar pizza in Astoria but I definitely would recommend paying a little extra to get...
Read moreTHIS is the pizza spot if you want a REAL taste of NYC of yesteryear! If you want old school Italians making your pizza, running the shop, that small, old school NYC pizzeria feeling look no further! If you grew up in NYC, you know exactly what I am talking about. If you didn't grow up in NYC, well this is one of the last places in NYC of its kind that'll give you an idea of what it used to be like back in the day. Its the way an NYC slice of pizza is supposed to be. The service was awesome and the workers chatted with us and made us feel like we were apart of the neighborhood. If you're in the Astoria area living or visiting and love pizza you owe it to yourself. If you're outside the boroughs, you still owe it to yourself to make this trip. Because TRUST ME, there's really not many pizza places like this one around in...
Read moreThe pizza was average, but the chicken wings were disgusting. Maybe I was wrong to order wings from a pizza shop, but I figured if they were on the menu, they knew how to make them. I was so wrong. I asked for the wings to be extra crispy, and so their solution was to place the wings in an aluminum tin and bake them in their oven. So instead of extra crispy wings, I got wings that were stuck to the bottom of the aluminum tin and still really fatty. I ordered the hot wings, but there was no sauce and it looked like they just sprinkled pepper flakes on the wings. I don't know how this place has been open for so long with the way they make food. Maybe it's a different owner? I don't know. But what I do know is that I won't be ordering from this...
