I noticed an unusual phenomena about some venues that are considered to be successful. The food could be good and the drinks could be good (though I didn’t have a chance to try anything here) but there is a constant feeling that personnel has an unwelcoming attitude. This place has this kind of atmosphere. In my experience this usually matches the attitude of the owner or the manager.
Hosts that are supposed to welcome guests inside have their noses stuck up in the clouds and do not care about guests coming in. I understand that New York City is full of customers and probably your venue can afford loosing one or two people. Or even a whole bunch of people. However, I think this concept defeats the whole purpose of a restaurant. I still believe that restaurants belong to the hospitality industry. The fundament of hospitality is care. And your staff just seem to not care at all. I don’t believe there is a good restaurant without hospitality. That is why I rate this place one star.
I attempted to come here several times. I understand if you prefer large numbers but it just doesn’t feel right to tell your guests that they only can get a table (that was available) if we make a large order. It’s not only that, it’s also the way this message was delivered. Unwelcoming attitude. I thought this could be just one guy but the other night I tried to get a table and the lady at the entrance was so unwelcoming that I have no doubts - this place is for making money, not for making care.
Of course you have the right to do so, you have the right to do whatever you want. But then I have the right to rate you one star for being unwelcoming and write...
Read moreReviewing my last review. I’m glad I returned to SJNYC. They have a wonderful and extensive wine list which if they have a bottle open will let you taste and give you a thorough description on the wines which is nice. The place is bustling and always quite busy which is why I had to try it out so I would suggest making a reservation if you can although they do accept walk-ins. I had the BLT on baguette bread which was a fabulous twist on a classic sandwich. Great coffee too. The bar area does get cosy when it’s busy and can be a little tricky to eat so do mind that when coming if busy but amazing opportunity to have a drink and chat with other solo diners as I did. I’ll be back again during my next trip. For breakfast and dinner and will certain put on my list of recommendations when visiting NYC. It looks like it’s a great spot for people watching if you’re lucky enough to sit outside/by the window. *Try their orange...
Read moreIf there is 0 stars I would give them 0 stars. But my friend and I came in to grab some coffee and bites around noon. We have been wanting to try this place because we work nearby. We literally stood there waiting for a host or the two bartenders to tell us if we sit ourselves or wait. They look like they weren't busy because one bartender is tasting wine with a girl and the other was eating off of their friends plate that was sitting at the bar. We even waived to see I could get their attention, but no. They looked at us and ignored us. my friend and I sensed that we were not welcome and left. We thought maybe they were closed and having a staff tasting. But we looked online for their hours and they were open. It's so unprofessional and makes me wonder if we were white maybe we could have been seated promptly. Why give our business to racist restaurant serving...
