A stomach churning experience.
This may be the origin of my villain story of food reviews.
Wilfie & Nell is a wonderfully aesthetic example of a West Village Bar nook. The atmosphere is lively but casual. However, the food and service are lack luster.
My server seemed like they carried the air of just trying to do their job and go home. Beyond their blasé demeanor, they performed exactly that (which was the only thing that carried my gratuity).
Oh! But the horror of the food! I ordered the pimento cheese dip that comes with potato chips and also an order of Wilfie & Nell’s spicy buffalo wings.
It was my own fault that I imagined the pimento cheese dip to come served as a hot, gooey plate of cheesy goodness instead of the ice cream scooped, lump of port wine that looked like it was gathered from a tub that I received. As I forced myself to be okay with that, the seemingly homemade potato chips were cold as though they were stored away all day and extremely greasy. The cheese lacked flavor and it all left an unpleasant feel in my hungry belly.
The absolute worst part was the wings. As I received my plate, I grew hopeful and excited. A heap of wings, tossed in hot sauce, covered in bleu cheese crumbles, and served with a side of ranch sauce and celery sticks. “What could go wrong?”, I thought. Until I ate them and all my happiness was shot out of the sky. I thought, “Just because the first wing was tough, I should give another one a chance.” Lo and behold my happiness plane crashed. As it turns out, the wings are pre-cooked in prep and then reheated upon order. So you get tough, old tasting chicken that doesn’t retain its heat, moistness or quality if they were cooked to order. Absolutely disgusting!
My stomach is still bubbling, but at least the beer was good.
I recommend you learn from my experience and don’t bother. There are far better places to dine in the West Village for a comparable price point.

Read moreI have been a West Village resident for 24 years and I am truly disappointed and pretty offended by the service I received at Wilfie and Nell tonight. The bar tends to get a bit crowded and there are large vases at the end of the bar. I attempted to move the plant out of my face so that the bartender could see my face and I could order a drink. As I proceeded to move the plant away, the bartender came over to me - proceeded to move the plant even closer to my face, and refused to take my drink order. This was offensive, as I thought he was coming to take my drink order. I have been a resident of the West Village for quite some time and have never received such offensive service in the neighborhood in my life. After the bartender walked away and did not serve myself and my friend - we decided to leave. I am very disappointed in the lack of customer service tonight and will definitely not be coming back due to the service I received. Go somewhere else where plants are not shoved in your face and your...
Read moreI’ve been to this establishment many times but this time was different. I was on line for the restroom with a friend and we got screamed at by a server that there’s a “one person to a bathroom rule” and my girlfriend couldn’t accompany me. While she’s waiting on line to use the other restroom because she wasn’t able to use the restroom with me a server cut the line and said because she was in her shift she needed to use the restroom more urgently than her. After I exited the bathroom the server came up to me and asked if “I had a problem with her” because she heard that my friend didn’t understand why she couldn’t accompany me in the bathroom. Overall it was a very strange and hostile experience. I’m not sure if they changed staff but this will deter me from ever returning given how rude and hostile the servers were. To be clear they were not bartenders, strictly server staff...
