We booked a table at bobo west village with much excitement earlier in the day. We got texted to confirm our reservation in the afternoon, and we did. 30 minutes before our reservation time, we received a text saying they’re expecting us in 30 minutes. We arrived exactly on time and were told to stand by the bar, as our table was not ready yet. We mentioned we were going to a show next door and only had 90 minutes to enjoy dinner. It was strange because there were 3 tables open on the lower section right where we were standing. The next 3 coupes with reservations were offered seated in these seats if they didn’t want to wait…..By the time we asked they said oh yea you could have seated there if you wanted, there was a tiny spaced table in the middle of the pack, so we decided to wait for our upstairs table, as it we were told the bill was paid and they were leaving. We waited 15 minutes after our reservation time to be seated, while 3 other had been seated and served their first drinks already…once seated, we then waited another 10 minutes before our server came by. With no apology about the wait, we ordered our full meal and bottle of wine all at once. After waiting another 10 minutes my wife had to ask where the wine was, and the server rudely said, “it’s coming from the cellar so you’ll have to just wait!” This is when our experience at bobo really fell apart. Very surprised when their wine list of maybe 20 reds required a 20 minute search to retrieve it.
A few minutes later our appetizer arrived and still no wine. We then asked a manager where our wine was? He said he would get it right away as our food was getting cold. We decided to just eat it anyways without our desired wine pairing. When the manager returned with the bottle, he kindly apologized and said he would be taking care of something from our bill. This was the moment I thought things would turn around on the experience.
Unfortunately the bottle of Pomerol was very warm, and I had to ask for an ice chiller to get the temperature to a reasonable level to enjoy this very nice bottle of Bordeaux. By this point, our server had completely ghosted on us. When the food arrives we had basically 15 minutes to enjoy this meal, so we decide to stay longer and enjoy it while sacrificing the start of our show. At no point at all, did our server come back to see how our meal was or ask about the wine and our timing. Our final interaction with him was to ask for the bill, and have the bottle of wine packed to go, as we couldn’t finish it. Without a word he gave us our bill and brought the packed bottle of wine back.
To our surprise, even though the manager said he would be taking care of something from our bill, nothing had been done. So at this point we just paid and left extremely dissatisfied and disappointed with bobo. Our awesome Saturday evening in NYC was trashed by our experience here. So Félicitations for accomplishing this feat, when it could have been completely avoided with some professional care and attention to detail. I guess you could say you’ve made a bit of a boo boo that will be remembered by us for a while. Usually we wouldn’t take the take to leave a negative review, but through all the dinners out around NYC over the past decade, this took the cake as the most disappointing. We wanted other people out there to know that they may get the same treatment we did and perhaps to consider another option. It’s not that we don’t see a possibly incredible dining experience at bobo, it’s just that ours missed the mark but a massive margin. For the amount of money we are spending this level of service is unacceptable. I know we’re not “regulars” or VIP patrons, so we have reasonable expectations, but this hit rock bottom....

Came here for my birthday brunch with the girls and made the mistake of not reading ALL the reviews. We were supposed to be a party of 7. Thankfully, only 6 of us could make it. What seems to be the only table for 7 (no, they would not accommodate 8) is stuck in the back of the room, close to the service door and straight across an air vent. Throughout our meal, we were blown away, not only by the horrible food experience but also by cold air. One of my guests kept wrapping herself in her shawl, and the rest of us were just freezing. Took us two requests to turn off the air.
We asked the waiter about the menu, and his responses were not overly enthusiastic. While I felt more adventurous, one of the girls ordered a Croque Monsieur, and I jokingly said that's the one dish impossible to ruin. Well, that was the one that was sent back to the kitchen. Croquettes were soggy, and the rest of the food lackluster to put it mildly. I ordered french fries twice because they were the best tasting dish of the meal. Salad that advertised avocado and green apples, had red apples instead (definitely not the taste of granny smith), and avocado I had to dig for to find on the plate.
My oeufs meurette en cocotte were so bland and underwhelming (even while being oversalted), I asked the waiter to ask the chef for a sauce to compliment the dish. Before the sauce from the kitchen arrived, he placed a bottle of Tabasco on the table for me.
Our plates were cleared off the table in a rushed manner. No one asked if we were still working on them. The runners did not know who had what dish.
We left hungry and disappointed. My celebratory brunch was ruined. What a waste of time and money.
I now understand why the entire room (Den/basement) is nowhere in the public photos. It looks like a dump. Our table was by the kitchen door. My chair was broken, rattly with one of the rear legs unhinged.
This is one of the worst meal experiences for me. The 2 stars for service go to the waiter for his drinks recommendations. They were boozy enough to keep us from walking out right away.
I came here so excited and drumming the place up to my guests only to be disappointed by nearly everything about the visit.

Read more“One cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined well” stated once Virginia Woolf. My dinning experience at BoBo, a restaurant specializing in French country cooking, truly echoed Mrs. Woolfs admonition of eating well. Upon arriving at the location, set on a beautiful 1930’s townhouse in the West Village, we were warmly greeted by a friendly staff and promtly seated to our table. Our server, Seth, was pleasant and welcoming, and after discussing various specialty dishes and suggestions took our orders. For drinks we ordered a spicy margarita and a lavender julip. The drinks were both refreshing and balanced to taste. As a starter we ordered an Endive and Lyonnaise salad. The Lyonnaise salad was crisp and creamy. The poached egg truly added an extra layer of richness to the overall taste. Next we ordered the grilled octopus and mussels, and as a garniture a side order of asparagus. Kudos to our runner Severiano, for bringing out the dishes so swiftly. The mussles were phenomenal, drenched in a white wine, butter and garlic sauce the taste was succulent and cooked perfectly. The octopus was cooked to taste, and the crispy bayonne complemeted well the texture of the dish. Lastly, the asparagus, served cold, with gribiche sauce were spectacular and one of my favorite dishes of the night.
We ordered two medium rare flat iron steaks as entrees. The steaks were flavorful, set on a bordelaise sauce and complemented with a baked layered potato dish that was truly tasty. We paired the steaks with two glasses of red wine, suggested by the wonderful expertise of Yulia, a Pinot Noir and a Malbec. The pairing of the wine greatly balanced the buttery flavors of the steak.
Overall, the experience at BOBO was more than just a culinary feast of rich and wonderful flavors in French country cuisine. The friendly staff, expertise wine suggestion and great atmosphere really made the night unforgettable and one I hope to...
