I never write reviews unless I'm truly wowed or in this case, completely pissed off. I wanted to give them 1.5 stars but I'm rounding it down to 1 because 2 stars would be too high in my opinion. I've been here 3 times and won't be giving them my business ever again.
The only bright side of this place is that the desserts are good. Crazy expensive but good. However, this is NYC and I can list plenty of dessert shops in the city that taste just as good if not better for a lower price.
As for why I'm giving them only 1 star, the way they manage their operations is truly TERRIBLE. All the times I've purchased from here, I've ordered online in advance to pick up in the store at a selected time. There really shouldn't be a wait at all unless I show up early right? The first time went fine. As I mentioned, the desserts taste good, so I placed another order eventually. I once again selected a time to pick up my order but when I showed up, none of the items from my order were ready. They hadn't even started making them and only started assembling things after I arrived. There was no urgency either and I waited probably close to 20 minutes to receive my order. In hindsight that should have been the last time I came back here but I thought maybe this was an exception, not the norm. So that brings us to now and what prompted me to write this review.
I placed an order on a Tuesday for pick up on Sunday. The order was for a few individual sized cakes and then the most important part which was a large celebratory cake for a dinner I was hosting. I show up on Sunday and once again my order was not ready. So I waited. And after a while with no update, I asked what was going on and was told they were decorating the cake. And then more waiting. Asked again for an update and that's when I was told that they couldn't even make the cake because they were missing an ingredient. WHAT!?!? This is just a larger version of their signature Le Miel cake. How is it possible they don't have an ingredient for it? Apparently they were supposed to call me and let me know in advance that they wouldn't be able to fulfill the order and either refund me or make the switch to a different cake but never did. Honestly I'm skeptical that they really ran out of an ingredient. I suspect they actually gave someone else my cake. So they offered to give me a different cake and refund the difference. The cake I originally ordered was enough for 10-12 servings but the new one they offered to sell me was only 6-8 servings which would have been small for the amount of guests I had, but I figured better to have a small cake than no cake. They also made it seem like this one was basically ready already so I waited. After a while I had to ask for another update and then they told me that it would be another 20 minutes. At this point I had already waited close to 45 minutes, I was going to be late to dinner, and I couldn't even trust that they would have a cake for me in another 20 minutes, so I just told them to refund me for that portion of my order and I would just take the rest.
And that wasn't even the end of it. They got another item in my order wrong and even when I tried to explain to them that they gave me the wrong thing by showing them my receipt, they insisted that I was wrong. At this point I was done arguing so I just left. It was truly such an awful experience and I would be a fool to give them my...
Read moreHere is the complete guide of Sweet Rehab’s signature and limited desserts. I got to try their signatures on their regular menu, as well as limited plant-based desserts in collaboration with Loba Patisserie.
Sweet Rehab is a French patisserie serving champagne and tea in the heart of SoHo. Their cakes and tarts are beautifully crafted with premium ingredients and fresh fruits. Decadent, delicious and visually pleasing.
One of my favorite thing is that they open till 12am every day. With its convenient location, you can pick up your cake or visit the shop for late night dessert after dinner.
* Signature Dessert - Le Miel, Mojito Yuzu Tart, Chocolate Explosion, Mango Addict Cheesecake We got to try the sample bites of their bestselling signatures. None of these is a miss and every single piece knocked our socks off.
Le Miel is my top fav—the balance between orange blossom cream and honey is impeccable, allowing each ingredient to shine without overpowering the other.
Followed by our second fav Mojito Yuzu, which delivers a burst of citrusy freshness from the smooth tangy custard cream.
Delicately garnished with mango, the cheesecake has a lighter profile compared to traditional NY Cheesecake. The texture is more velvety and airy with a hint of tropical flavors.
Lastly we tried the all-time beloved chocolate cake. It uses 70% choc so it’s guaranteed to satisfy any dark choc lovers. The ganache is beautifully silky and shiny, topped with caramelized nuts and sea salt. Just a side note that this compliments with the champagne the best.
*Mojito Yuzu Tart Apart from Le Miel, their Mojito Yuzu Tart is my another favorite. Topped with meringue and citrusy jam, it is layered with pistachio biscuit, yuzu custard and almond crust. It has a mix of tangy flavor from the yuzu and light, floral sweetness.
*Flower Raspberry Tart On top of the flower-shaped almond biscuit, the tart is stacked with pistachio biscuits, mixed-berries orange blossom jam, fresh raspberries. Fluffy vanilla whipped cream was piped around the tart like flower petals. Very light and fruity bite.
* Pistachio Bomb limited You truly can’t believe this is 100% vegan! Upon the first bite, the pistachio flavor unfolds with rich nuttiness, complemented by the creamy coconut undertones. The crushed pistachio and the pistachio praliné promise a pistachio-packed pleasure that leave me in awe. Honestly the best pistachio cake I’ve ever had in my life.
* Rock & Rocher limited If you’re a fan of Ferrero Rocher chocolate, here presented the vegan luxurious variation. As the fork glides through, the cake reveals layers of hazelnut mousse, praliné and chocolate sponge cake, decadently coated in crunchy chocolate glaze.
* Thé à l’opéra Heard that this is the chef’s fav. It’s a fruity green tea fruity with notes of red fruits and vanilla.
* Champagne Barons de...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I had a very upsetting experience at Sweet Rehab that I feel you all other customers should be aware of.
We were excited to visit your beautiful shop—we even walked over 30 minutes just to enjoy your pastries and bring some home. Unfortunately, what should have been a special visit quickly turned sour due to how we were treated by a staff member.
When we first arrived, I sat down to look at the menu while my boyfriend stepped away to use the restroom. Upon his return, he explained that the woman behind the counter with blonde hair told him we could not sit down unless we ordered multiple items ( 3 out of 5 tables open) I still hadn’t decided what I wanted, so I went up to the counter to continue browsing. When she asked me what I wanted, I explained I was still deciding—that’s why I was seated with the menu on my phone. We placed our order and sat down, and there were at least 3 open tables at the time. After waiting quite a while for our order that took quite some time, the waiter finally brought our pastries but handed them to my boyfriend in a bag and told us we needed to get up. She had a line at the counter but was so persistent to make sure we got up. My boyfriend received the pastry so I was gathering my wallet, car keys and phone by time I was lifting to get up she said we need to leave and we cannot sit down. Her patience was little to none. Trust me we were not trying to stay, I drove into NYC and was ready to go home.It felt rushed and unwelcoming, as though we were being singled out compared to other customers in the shop. When I tried to explain how disrespectful and distasteful the situation felt, I was dismissed without any acknowledgment of our concerns.
At that point, we decided to return the pastries and leave. The only positive note was a kind young gentleman on your staff, who took the time to listen and offered complimentary pastries. While we appreciated his effort, the experience with the other staff member left such a bad impression that we will sadly not be returning. I’m sharing this with you because I truly believe Sweet Rehab has a beautiful concept and products worth enjoying, but your staff—particularly the woman we interacted with—needs better training in customer service and respect. No guest should feel targeted, rushed, or dismissed after choosing to spend their time and money at your establishment.
Thank you for taking the time to read this. I hope you will address the matter, so future customers don’t leave with the same...
