Color factory explores a lot of ideas for what, on the surface, seems like just another collection of experience rooms. Sure you could go through and squeeze this for all it's Instagram juice, but you'd be missing a big part of the experience. And while it's photo ops are great, there are places that do that aspect better, such as the Wndr museum, but its Color Factories smart, multisensory and philosophical/art museum approach that stands apart. Almost every room has a collaboration with an artist who shapes the idea for the room and explores it in some fashion. In some cases it misses, such as the room with inflated balloons with wishes written on them and fans that blow them, the idea is just not executed in an interesting fashion, though it still makes a great photo op. Most times though if you take the time to engage with the idea, the room becomes that much richer. And speaking of photo ops , they use a card tap system to automatically take your picture and email it to you, a nice addition that frees you from having to take pictures yourself, though it's advisable to use your own camera as there will be quite a bit to take pictures of. Your never rushed, and are allowed to take as much time in all but one room, though you can't head back into any room. They use themed treats that are as beautiful to look at as they are to eat and just as colorful. These aren't just random food items either but treats from some great NY institutions such as Il Labrotorio del Gelato, and Mille Feuille bakery, it's about $10 worth of treats you get. That's the thing about color factory, they don't skimp and do everything with quality and care. For example your given a little artist designed souvenir at the end to choose from at no additional cost.(I picked a beautiful enamel pin, though there was a great keychain among other things) One of the first experiencs requires you to take your partner and sit across from them and look into one another's eyes while doing a non visual continuous line drawing, a very intimate experience actually. The staff is fantastic, and that ball pit, while I know just a ball pit, really does make you feel like a kid as you dive into it with no inhibitions. Just thinking of that room brings to mind that relaxing shade of blue and is quite calming. In the end Color Factory is what MoMA would do if it did an experience, it's far less about color than it is about what emotions and ideas color signifies. Oh and as you leave your given a map with installations throughout the city for you to further engage with, just another exaxmple of how well thought...

Ok so it looks interesting to check out. I thought it was a little pricey prior to going. Decided to just do it since already there and with friends.
Well it ended up being a very wise choice. I believe a few experiences have changed or been updated from 2 years ago. One thing I did not know prior to coming here is that the have some free things to give out throughout the experience. There's a couple small snacks of candy and a few items.
Prior to coming make sure your phone is charged up and has plenty of space for photos and video. You'll end up taking more content than you would expect. There are photo kiosks through out to take fun photos and angles. You can download all those photos for free and without a water mark. You can also print them out in the gift shop. First photo is $10 and nice discounts for multiples.
Here's a few experiences sumed up. The drawing room is very unique and great for friends. Basically you draw each other while I'm different rooks looking at each other through a glass window. The confetti room is what you would expect by name. Definitely a fun way to start and getting physical for the tour.
I really liked the disco room and the music. I could jam out all day by myself. The best display is the most simplistic, THE BALL PIT! Take off your shoes and go for a dive and slide. Everyone loved this and turned into a little kid. This is probably one of the best group art interactive experiences I've done in years. You can't but help to jump around, throw some balls and take photos. Everyone got a nice workout in and laughed and smiled the whole time. The pit is clean the ball pit with a special system. It uses mechanical brushes along with cleaning chemicals and UV lights on each ball.
A couple words of advice on the ball pit. Don't take any sharp, or anything that can get lost. It will be quite the chore to find it. Turn up the volume on your phone and keep a good grip on it. I had a little too much fun and lost my phone for a min. Haha
The quick summary. It seems a little pricey but it is well worth the experience and they give you a few snacks and gifts along the way. You also get to download all your photos you take with them easily....
Read moreThe Color Factory was very cool! I would have added more pictures, but I didn't want to post anything with myself or my daughter in them. There are many different rooms and themes throughout the Color Factory. First things first, they have a free (as in included in your ticket, so no additional charge) coat check where you can check coats and backpacks etc.) One of my daughter's (13) favorite rooms was most likely the confetti room. Confetti continuously falls from the ceiling, and there are, of course, piles of confetti all over the floor. I have many photos/videos of her throwing confetti up in the air and posing while it fell over her. It is a self guided tour through, but it is one way meaning to take your time going through because once you move to the next room, you can't go back. You can take as many photos as you want too. They also give you a card with a QR code on it because they have cameras stationed throughout the factory where you can pose for photos, and they email a link to you with all of your photos. You don't have to pay extra for this because it is included in your ticket. You don't have to pay to print your favorite ones at the end (although I think that you can if you want too, I didn't.) Also, you can use the code to take as many pictures as you'd like too. My daughter's second favorite room was at the end... the last room is the giant ball pit. It's huge! It's set up like a big pool with a few floats to pose on, and there is a slide built into it. We spent a lot of time here. There were both adults and children enjoying the ball pit, but for those who don't want to go in, they have bleacher-like seating in two corners of the room. From these seats, you can observe everything and watch your family from close by. You do have to take your shoes off to enjoy the ball pit. Also, they gave us a small ice cream treatable the ball pit. I really enjoyed the whole experience. The staff was very friendly and helpful from the beginning to the end. It's definitely fun for the...
