If you’re looking for a place to accidentally purchase a piece of art so historically significant that it might incite a knife fight in Malibu, look no further. Recently, I acquired a “mysterious” piece of art from Martin Lawrence Galleries and let me tell you, the intrigue didn’t stop at the purchase. The delivery process was like a thriller movie that could only have been more exciting if it involved a high-speed chase through the stunning estates of the Hamptons.
Now, I can’t disclose what I bought because I don’t need everyone knowing I’ve got a treasure trove worthy of a fake business empire. Let’s just say it’s a piece so coveted, even the most casual observer might say, "Wow, that sort of looks like something a Spanish guy with a confusing hairstyle might have doodled." But who’s to say, right?
Special thanks to Kara with a K—who, I swear, must moonlight as an FBI agent with how she handled my case. Stacey in Las Vegas—because of course, you need someone in Vegas to help locate a lost package. Vegas isn’t just for losing your dignity and life savings anymore; now they find art that gets lost in existential postal limbo! And let’s not forget Michael at the gallery, who assured me everything was on track even when it seemed like my precious cargo was touring the country without me.
All in all, a wild ride that ended with my “not-a-Picasso” safely on my wall, where it quietly whispers sweet nothings about cultural significance and tax evasion. Would buy here again—because who doesn’t love art with a side of adrenaline?
Catch you at the next gallery showing—or maybe at a fake business...
Read moreLong overdue review! My wife and I were walking around SOHO and came past this gallery. I only really know about Magritte’s art a bit but my wife looked at the artists on display and said lets go in you will love it. We were greeted by Nicole at the front. She was super welcoming and invited us to look around and let her know if we had an questions. I wouldnt normally feel comfortable in an art gallery but Nicole was great. They had Murakami pieces on display which caught my eye. Remembered some of his flowers from other works but didnt put it together I guess. Nicole took us downstairs to see the fun Murakami pieces they had and even showed us some other cool things from my style. We talked to her for awhile about art and we told her we from philly. She invited us back up for a showcase of someone my wife knew. It was bad timing for that week but just to feel invited was huge. Highly recommend dealing with Nicole if you are...
Read moreBuyer beware. Martin Lawrence has beautiful art, but resale value is usually a quarter of what they charge — even 5–10 years out. I learned this the hard way. Their salespeople lean on “investment” talk, auction appreciation claims, and certificates of authenticity to create a sense of exclusivity. The real exclusivity is that you’re paying 2–4× market value. It’s legal, but unusually predatory, and it functions like a scam.
I haven’t bought in years, but looking back I wish someone had warned me. If you’re considering a purchase, check auction comps first so you understand the real market before spending serious money here. Honestly, it’s 2025 — just snap a photo and see what it’s...
