We met at Sweetspot for a birthday yesterday, expecting an upscale experience compared to all the other Russian restaurants nearby. Their prices are appropriate for a serious, upscale place, and the design and ambience are beautiful. Our waiter was relatively attentive and polite and answered our questions.
Unfortunately, the food was a big disappointment. While the fish, lamb, and salads were good, both the ribeye and the filet mignon were quite bad. The filet was drowned in a sweet tangy sauce that completely overpowered it and destroyed the flavor, and the medium well ribeye was killed completely by totally overcooking it. Nobody checked with us on whether we were happy with our $50 steaks.
But the absolute travesty was the $28 potato with mushrooms, which was just soggy overcooked french fries with a measly portion of mushrooms. The upgraded version with nicer mushrooms cost and obscene $45, which would have been a crime with fries like that.
We spend roughly $100/person. With that, they asked us for a $50 cake fee - which is just rude with prices like that. Overall, unfortunately, given the quality of the food and service, this feels like a big cash grab, and we will definitely...
Read moreI visited their old location before - thrilled to see this restaurant thriving in its new home. It’s a big improvement over the former Sahara restaurant - I hope it attracts loyal, appreciative customers.
This spot is a great addition to the area - delicious food and a lovely ambiance, which have been missing here.
We dined on Thursday evening - had no complaints about the service. We’re easy customers: we know what we like, aren’t picky, and treat staff well. Here’s what we ordered:
Smoked semga: Always fresh and delicious.
Pickled tomato: Perfectly flavored to whet the appetite.
Lobster strudel: The name intrigued me, but the sauce overpowered the delicate phyllo and lobster.
Veal liver: Absolutely scrumptious - a must-try for liver fans.
Fried potatoes with chantarelle mushroom - to die for! 🤌
Bread basket: Delicious whole-grain bread with seeds and butter.
They didn’t have a liquor license yet, so we brought our own wine - no corkage fee, which was a nice touch. I wish them the best and hope the ambiance and service stay just...
Read moreTried to give them business. Wanted to order a party for 10 people on a Friday for 7:30pm. Ordered cold platters, salads and when it came down to main course I said that we would order it on the spot in the restaurant at 7:30. 3 different people said 3 dif things. One said if you are 8 people you can order on the spot. The other said you can't. 3rd said get 2 big platters with the stuff we don't eat. Once again I said we will order main course on the spot. They refused, as they say that it is against their policy. We have been to the old location many times. Will never go there again. 3 dif waiters made me feel as it was them that were spending money. Called another restaurant, made the same reservation and will order main course on the spot. One word of advice to the owners, remember what happened to...
