Visiting New York for my husband's 50th. He loves swing music so I decided to book the swing 46 as a birthday treat for him. Booked a table on line from the UK for 7:30. Was not told at this point that A the music doesn't start tell 9:30 and B that a 20.00 dollar charge per persone for the band's wages would be added to the bill along with a 15% tip. Have to say this was really not worth it. Ontop of this I had to pay 2 dollars to get my coat back. We spent over 265.00 dollars in this place and I have to add the food was really not brilliant and the wine very very very over priced. We paid 45 dollars each for a steak????? And 48 dollars for a bottle of red roja which I can buy from a supermarket for £7.00 at home and no more the £15-18.00 in a restaurant. I was asked on leaving if everything was ok and I replied honestly no, the food was poor and over priced, the wine expensive and the final straws was being charged for the entertainment and my coat, to which my response was your paying for the band....Now whilst I don't mind spending money on a good time what so ever I do really object to being ripped off and believe me that's exactly what this place has done to me as a British visitor to New York I doubt very much weather I will ever come back again.. I'd rather go back to the Ritz, where yes it's expensive, but it's a great service and stays in our own country!! I love travelling and love doing city breaks, but everything about tonight has left me with a really bad feeling in the pit of my stomach about not only swing 46, but New York and the way it rips people off....I thought Florence was expensive, but New York wins hands down. Wouldn't even mind if the service was good and attentive, but tonight at Swing 46 Resturant it was the pits and would highly recommend that you stay away and spend your money somewhere else........even McDonald's is better value for money(And that a saying something) plus the entertainment free!!! I very reluctantly give this a 1 star rating, and it only got this because I had to give it a 1 in order to be able to leave a review. If I could have not rated it I would have. Even the toilets are...
Read moreSwing 46 is a family friendly live jazz music venue that has a lot of atmosphere that fits the central location of NYC's infamous midtown location. The staff are warm and welcoming. The music is really, really good played by bands who have a long history of performances in this venue and come from all around the world. Love is nurtured and celebrated, and this love is definitely in the music and talent of Timatha one of the amazing singers with a variety of songs from 1920's jazz hits to modern jazz and pop favorites for the various ages that venture in. The regulars have amazing stories of how they found love with their spouses at this venue. I really enjoy this venue because as an artist and my love of music, when you are looking for a platform to share what you love, I must say the staff has embraced me with warm and open arms. This is a place I feel safe to bring my family to and I can kick back and enjoy the wonderful Dance lessons provide at 8 p.m. by Wolf, or Paolo and other professional dance teachers that have amazing swing dance moves, the best I've ever saw. The awesome music played by the bands like the Swingadelics, and more, make me look forward to the next event and I can't wait to enjoy their food and drinks that are so delicious my mouths watering while I think of it. My favorite dish is Orecchiette Pasta, but I am looking forward to trying the lemon garlic pan roasted swordfish. If you are looking for a fun date night, or the kids are cooped up from school work and day to day routines, this jazz venue is the place to go for the whole family to enjoy. I highly recommend trying their delicious banana cocktail too made by their awesome bartenders Paula and Cole. Michelle the manager is such a sweetheart and I really can call this place home, my midtown oasis! John the owner is very good at cultivating this family friendly atmosphere by carefully selecting his staff and talent to fit his customers some going there as long as 20 plus years! So I give this place a 5 out of 5 star rating. Its...
Read moreThis was a disappointment to our entire trip. We have been to several jazz clubs before and most are fully flavorful packed out places with all ages of people. We have always had fun. It was dead on a Saturday and that should have told me something. I had to order 3 different things off the appetizer food menu because nothing appealed to me. Most people there were over 65 some a lot older and obviously already knew how to swing dance professionally. The lessons were only to intimidate those people that have never in their life had swing danced. They should not have this offered to anyone. Every single move I made - I was told no that’s not right - the lesson was not long enough to learn anything accept to embarrass you in front of everyone that was watching. The music was nice but still more people over 75 years of age. The only thing nice other than the talented band of old people was our server. He went above and beyond. This place has so much potential. I’d recommend a club name change because of replies online that demote the places name, get rid of the lessons and rearrange the tables a bit so the focus is not just on the old people that do the swing dancing and everyone can feel like they are aloud to dance too. Your targeted market is specifically for old people. You should expand your target market to draw in different ages of people if you want to stay open and gave business. Swing 46 needs a makeover. We were upset that we had to spend that much money to eat and drink (around - almost $400) to leave hungry disappointed in food, embarrassed, and hang out with just old people in a dead club. We went several other places and enjoyed all of it for half the price with old and the young - and everyone in between. I can get sherbet rice cream at the grocery store and it would have been so...
